Chapter 56
“But just… he was slowly destroying it. He has taken years from me. I can’t look back on good memories anymore because I see now what I failed to see then. I can’t even make new ones.”
She rubbed her tummy as Jack and Micheal started to move around. “This is meant to be a happy time for me. A good time, but I have spent so much time feeling tired, sad, and so goddamn alone. I’m scared shitless of how I am going to cope on my own with two babies. On top of all that, what he’s doing to me is cruel beyond words.”
“It is, but mark my words, he will slip up, and I will arrest him. It may take time, but you have my word. As for this house, I know that you worked hard on it, and spent a lot of time buil
building this up, but it’s just a house. You can make a new home anywhere you decide to live. Maybe you should consider selling it.”
Milton leaned over and hugged her. “As soon as I’ve got this prick dealt with, you’ll need another cop to deal with, because my ass is already in over the line when it comes to you.” With that, he kissed the side of her head and sat up, winking at her.
“And I just know my wife will love you; you’ll have to meet soon.”
“Good, I could use another girlfriend.”
“Yeah, you girls do need fresh meat,” Ron commented as he placed down their cups. She looked in hers and saw it was cocoa.
Thanks, Ron.”
“I could do with a cop on my side, because I am a thread away from saying sorry, Pandora, and beating the living shit out of Derrik. I’m honestly just waiting to make good friends with a damn good lawyer.”
“If that’s all you need, then know that my brother Luke is one of the best. The fucker has even managed to get off a couple of guys I arrested,” Milton bated with a grin.
“Is that a fact?”
“No!” Pandora yelled, holding up her hand. “You can’t, Ron. My dad would make sure you got into more trouble.”
Ron just hushed me. “Stop getting your panties in a twist, you know I can take on the ape.
“That’s not the point, Ron. I need you here, you’re going to be an uncle,” she reminded him.
“Hush, don’t worry, I’ll leave him be for now.” Ron gave her a look and she knew that he was just waiting for a dark–alley moment. However, knowing she had enough stress in her life, she let it go.
Ron, Keira, and Sia helped her change all of her locks and passwords. Milton had dropped in again to say he had a word with Derrik who vowed he had done nothing, and Pandora was just out to get him, or
Ang plain crazy.”
The security team had come by as well, but Keira and Sia took her out for the day. Since Ron didn’t want her house to be left unoccupied, he asked a girl that worked for him, to house–sit while they were there.
There were three men who turned up and did a full check of the system, but they came up blank about how someone was getting around the security. Milton said that a patrol car had watched the house, and even stopped by and checked on them to make sure they were doing their work.
Due to all this and feeling more stressed, Pandora changed her evening appointment with Benjamin to first thing in the morning. Of course, she was running late, so she had a quick shower, opting not to wash her hair.
She got dressed in the closet and pulled her hair up in a messy bun. Limping down the stairs, she pulled on her jacket and gloves before heading out the
door.
“Hi,” she groaned, noticing that it was the woman from her first day who was back behind the desk. “I have a nine o’clock appointment?” As she spoke to her, she looked at Pandora, and her face had this odd look of shock come over it.
As her mouth dropped open, she stood up.
Hello? Pandora called as she started to feel uncomfortable with
she was looking at her. Without saying anything, she stood up and walked away.
She got to the door of the hallway and looked back at her over the shoulder.
Pandora gave her the best bitch face and she closed her eyes, shaking her head, and then just stared at Pandora. She opened her mouth to ask what the fuck her problem was, but she dashed down the hallway,
1/2
“What is it with the mean girls? Why do they have the ability to make someone feel so small with just a look?” Pandora asked out loud in the empty waiting room. She heard footsteps followed by what sounded like Benjamin’s voice.
“I am sure you are mistaken. Pan… Benjamin’s voice trailed off as he looked at Pandora with horror.
“What?” she yelled out.
Benjamin opened and then closed his mouth. ‘Pandora, you’re blue,” he stuttered.
She huffed. It was not like he could see that she was sad. “Maybe I’m a little sad but I wouldn’t say blue!”
Benjamin shook his head at her. “Come with me,‘ he muttered, moving toward her. He took her hand and then started pulling her. Instead of going to his office, he pulled her into the bathroom.
*Benjamin?” she asked and he pushed her to where the sink was. But his eyes seemed to be bouncing all over her.
“Look?” he said to her, “Look in the mirror.” He nodded toward it.
Pandora sighed and looked at the mirror. She felt her body jump back a little. Thankfully, Benjamin was standing behind her, so she didn’t fall over, but she ended up in his arms.
“I’m blue, half my face is blue!” she shrieked out loud as her gloved hand moved to the mirror, touching it.
She even rubbed the mirror to make sure nothing was on it. She tilted her head to the other mirror, seeing she still appeared to be blue.
“Benjamin, I’m blue!” she yelled. “Why am I blue?”
“I can see that, calm down.”
“Calm down!” she yelled, cutting him off as she turned in his arms. “I am freaking blue, like a damn smurf.”
Benjamin’s mouth twitched and she slapped his chest. “Benjamin, if I wasn’t pregnant, I would laugh with you, but I am, and I am blue.” She felt her chest get tighter as it came to her that she was heavily pregnant. “My babies, Benjamin, what… why?”
Benjamin wrapped his arms around her and seemed to slide her to a nearby chair. “Hush, Pandora,” Benjamin said as he seemed to place her on his knee.
“But I’m blue,” she told him again like he could forget he was talking to an oversized smurfette with brown hair.
