Chapter 12
Without hesitation, Alston booked the first flight to Paris.
The past week without Alani had pushed him to the edge.
He’d turned the city upside down looking for her, sending everyone on his payroll to search, but found nothing.
Alani had disappeared without a trace.

Not only was she gone, but everything in their home that belonged to her had vanished.
Their wedding photos, all her clothes, her shoes, even the bedsheets… Even the bathroom had been stripped of her toothbrush and slippers.
Like someone had systematically erased every sign she’d ever existed.
The massive house suddenly felt hollow. Alston couldn’t find Alani, and he couldn’t even feel her
presence anymore.
He couldn’t find a single photograph of her eventually.
He’d had dozens of pictures of her on his phone, but somehow they’d all disappeared. Even her contact information had disappeared from his phone. He hadn’t deleted or blocked her, yet her
number had mysteriously vanished!
Her phone number was unreachable too. Alston couldn’t find Alani, nor contact her in any way.
He had truly lost her completely. This realization hit Alston with a wave of panic he’d never felt
before.
Alani was his lifeline. He couldn’t lose her!
He spiraled, searching with increasing desperation, calling in favors, hiring more investigators.
But still, nothing.
With Fion’s two–day deadline approaching, Alston was out of options.

He grabbed the divorce papers and grudgingly signed them.
He figured once Fion had the papers, he’d definitely contact Alani. That connection would lead him straight to her!
After signing, Alston immediately had his team hire a top–tier hacker.
“Something’s wrong with my phone,” Alston passed it over. “Everything about my wife is gone. Photos, contact info, messages–all disappeared!”
The hacker glanced at the screen and spotted the issue immediately.

“Your phone’s been compromised,” he said, tapping through menus. Within seconds, he pulled up a strange app Alston had never seen.
“I never installed that! How did it get on my phone?”
“You don’t have to install it yourself. Someone with the right gear just needs to get close to your phone to pair with it. Then they can mess with it whenever they want.”
“That’s crazy. They don’t even need to physical access my phone?”
“It’s not that easy–only top–tier hackers have these capabilities. Your phone don’t have any security software. I’ll install something to protect you from hack attacks.”
“Can you recover my data?” Alston asked urgently.
“Those data contain precious memories with my wife. Whatever it costs, I’ll pay it.”
