He knew exactly how to convins her. And now Stella found herself without a good answer.
“So, just a little later, now…” Stella tried to divert the conversation Discussing that subject in public was not a good idea. She swallowed before continuing. “It’s too early…”
“It’s alreatly eight o’clock at night! How can it be early? Besides, how could you not get here in a hurry?” Nathan asked, his voice laden with a doubt that she couldn’t quell.
Stella felt insecurity rise in her throat. His voice, which had pace sounded so firm, now became more and more hesitant. She wanted to shake her head in denial, but he had pulled her out of the pool with a force, she didn’t dare to challenge.
When they passed Marlon, he, with his serious tone, said:
“Stella and I have some business, let’s leave first. Please take care of Liam. Don’t joke too much, send him back to Sara at some point.”
“Okay got it, Chief.” Marlon replied, as serious as ever, but with a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
Stella watched in silence as Marlon seemed indifferent to the situation. However, a slight curve to his lips indicated that he was aware of what was about to happen. He didn’t show it any more than necessary, but the restrained smile was enough for Stella to realize that he knew exactly what was coming.
As they left, the sound of Marlon and Liam’s voices became more distant. Liam, curious, called out:
“Uncle, where are Papa and Mama going?”
Marlon’s answer was direct, almost joking:
“They’re going to make you a little brother or sister.”
The words, spoken with such fervor, made Stella’s face blush intensely. She was speechless, totally at a loss as to how to react. What she had just heard was impossible to process.
Once in the bedroom, Nathan guided her to the bed and let go of her hand. With a mischievous smile, he said:
“Do you want to know what the prize was for yesterday’s contest?”
Seeing his smile, Stella immediately felt uncomfortable. She didn’t want to know, she was sure of it, but she answered:
“I don’t.”
Nathan just looked at her for a moment, as if it were a question of no real importance. He knew that, regardless of her answer, he
would show her what he wanted.
“Sit here and wait for me.” He said, before turning towards the closet
She sat down, uncomfortable, and watched him as he walked away. When he returned, he was holding a small box in his hands, the same box she had been dreading from the start. He held it out to her with an enigmatic smile.
“Open it.” Nathan ordered.
Stella hesitated, but curiosity spoke louder. She reached out and took the box. When she opened it, she found, to her surprise, a layer of condoms carefully stacked.
