Chapter 61
When she received the call from Matteo, she thought he had already returned home.
As she entered, she didn’t see Matteo and assumed he was in the study. But now, after hearing Isabella’s words, she realized that Matteo hadn’t come back yet.
The hotel hosting the banquet today was closer to here than her current residence. Plus, he had left the party at least half an hour earlier than her.
Even if he had dropped Raven off first, by this time, he should have already arrived home. However,
if he didn’t leave Raven’s place right away after dropping her off or had no intention of coming
home tonight, then that would be another story.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps came from the hallway.
Matteo was back.
“Daddy!”
“Hmm.” Matteo entered and walked over to the bedside.
Seeing him, Freya wanted to put down Isabella to give Matteo more space, but Isabella was unwilling to leave her arms. She reached out to Matteo.
Matteo leaned over and picked up Isabella.
As he held her, he was very close to Freya. She could smell his familiar cologne, but along with it,
there was a faint, elegant feminine fragrance.
It was the same scent she had just smelled on Raven earlier at the banquet.
Freya turned her face away, distancing herself from Matteo until the scent was no longer in her nose.
Matteo gently placed his hand on Isabella’s forehead, his eyes turning to Freya. “How high is the temperature now? Has it dropped?”
Freya repeated what the doctor had said, “The high fever has turned into a low fever, but it’s still not
stable, it may spike again.”

Chapter 61
“Hmm.”
Matteo sat on the edge of the bed, holding Isabella in his arms. Isabella, reluctant to get down, frowned, “Dad, your jacket is so stiff…”
Matteo took off his jacket and handed it to Freya. She reflexively took it and held it in her arms. Only when she clearly smelled the intertwined fragrances did she remember that she and Matteo were
about to divorce.
If it were in the past, she would have felt happy to hold his jacket, savoring the warmth, reluctant to
let go.
But now, she casually set the jacket aside, smiling at Isabella, “I’m going downstairs to make
porridge.”
With both Freya and Matteo at home, Isabella felt much better. Upon hearing Freya’s words, she obediently nodded, “Mm, thank you, Mommy.”
Freya smiled and turned to leave the room.
As she walked away, Matteo’s gaze fell on the jacket she had left on the chair.
Freya made the porridge and began preparing other ingredients.
After washing her hands and leaving the kitchen, twenty minutes had passed.
She hesitated for a moment, then went upstairs.
When she reached the second floor and turned the corner, she saw Matteo standing by the window
at the end of the corridor, talking on the phone. “The fever has gone down, don’t worry.”
Was he talking to Raven?
Would Raven really be worried about Isabella?
Freya averted her gaze and entered Isabella’s room.
Isabella had finished her IV drip and was now asleep. She had sweated a lot, and Aunt Sara was carefully wiping her sweat.
When she saw Freya, Aunt Sara quickly moved aside and handed her the towel, assuming she was going to take care of Isabella herself. After all, that was what Freya used to do.

In matters concerning Isabella and Matteo, Freya had always been hands–on.
Freya shook her head.
Aunt Sara paused for a moment, but didn’t think much of it. She continued carefully changing Isabella into fresh clothes.
After Aunt Sara was done, Freya sat on the sofa in the room and asked, “Has the doctor left?”
“Yes.”
“What did the doctor say? Is the fever likely to come back?”
She was considering whether to stay the night.
“The doctor said it shouldn’t happen again.”
“That’s good.”
