As expected, Mrs. Yates had already descended the stairs and was approaching our vehicle. I could only brace myself and accompany Simon.
“Mom, I’d like you to meet Lola”
“Good day, Mrs. Yates. My name is Lola White!”
I swiftly offered a courteous greeting and presented the gifts I had brought.
Mrs. Yates received the gifts with a smile, but her eyes remained locked on me.
Even after we entered the house, Mrs. Yates continued to observe me intently.
Subsequently, she expressed a desire to take me to the upstairs study.
Feeling slightly uneasy, I instinctively glanced at Simon for reassurance.

However, Mrs. Yates grasped my hand, saying, “There’s no need to worry, Lola. Let’s go upstairs for a private
conversation.”
She then turned to Simon and joked, “Don’t fret. I won’t harm your wife.”
My cheeks flushed immediately, “Mrs. Yates…”
Mrs. Yates appeared to be in exceptionally high spirits and maintained her grip on my hand.
“Darling, look at Lola. Isn’t she exactly as I described? Lovely and endearing.”
Mr. Yates, a distinguished and gracious gentleman, nodded in agreement.
“Indeed, she’s quite beautiful and charming. She seems like a wonderful person at first glance.”
I felt perplexed and somewhat bewildered.
Mrs. Yates held my hand, her eyes glistening with
tears:
“Lola, please don’t misunderstand. It may so…d

peculiar, but I’ve been experiencing the same recurring dream for years.”
“In this dream, Simon never married or started a family because of a certain girl.”
“He passed away in his forties, all alone.”
“Initially, his father and I dismissed it as just a dream.”
“But as time went on, other elements from the dream began to materialize.”
Mrs. Yates’s tears flowed freely, “My years of vegetarianism and Buddhist prayers were all for Simon’s sake.”
“I was genuinely concerned that the dream’s conclusion might come true.”
“So I often thought, if that girl truly existed, how wonderful it would be if she could be with Simon.”
“Seeing you now, I realize that all my efforts weren’t in
vain.”
“Lola, please promise to cherish each other, you and

Simon.”
My eyes had long since welled up with tears.
In this world, there are despicable individuals like my biological parents.
But there are also mothers who love their children unconditionally, like Mrs. Yates.
How fortunate I am to have encountered Simon and such a remarkable family.
