Chapter 12
Lawrence’s lips curled into a old smile as he stared at her with piercing gaze. He didn’t say a word, but the tension in the room was thick.
Emily wasn’t fazed at all. She met his gaze head–on, not even blinking.
Their eyes locked, and silent sparks flew between them.
Emily’s unusual calmness made Lawrence’s expression darken even more.
Just then, Emily’s phone rang.
It was a video call from William.
He couldn’t even wait until the evening; William was already calling to check in.
Emily was convinced now–William must have sensed something was up…
James, standing nearby, saw who was calling with a single glance.
He looked at Lawrence, still standing there, then at Emily beside him, and his eyes flickered. “Emily, it’s your grandpa
calling. You should answer, or he’ll start worrying again.”
Emily felt a sudden rush of anxiety.
She had come back today to keep William in the dark about her impending divorce with James.
But who could have predicted that Lawrence would show up at this moment?
Not answering would only make William more suspicious.
She had no choice but to play it by ear.
She answered the call, and William’s kind face immediately appeared on the screen.
“Emily, what are you doing? You don’t even have time to answer my calls?”
Afraid of giving anything away, Emily pointed the phone at herself and James, her voice softening unconsciously. Im with Grandpa, William. How are you feeling? I miss you so much.”
Both William and James were eager for her to have children. She had been so preoccupied with her battles with Lawrence that she hadn’t spoken to William in a while.
Especially now, with the secret of her divorce weighing on her, she felt even guiltier.

“I miss you too. You’ve been married for so long, and you said you’d bring Lawrence to see me. I haven’t seen either of you yet. Do you think I’m easy to fool?”
William’s dissatisfaction was genuine.
Once a legendary figure in the business world, he now had to feign anger to get Emily’s attention.

Chapter 12
His daughter had passed away early, and his sons were all singl
Emily was his only beloved granddaughter.
He cherished her so much that he feared she might feel neglected. Now that she was married, as long as she was happy, he
was content:
“William, listen to you. Emily is my granddaughter–in–law now. Don’t think you
can just take her away from me.”
James was worried that if he wasn’t careful, E
would be taken away.
William and James were ok friends who had be
this relationship.
Not that he ever cared about anything related to Emily,
through their initial conflicts. Only Lawrence was unaware of
Watching the three of them chat and laugh on the phone, treating him like he was invisible, Lawrence felt an inexplicable
discomfort.
He remembered that William was supposed to be living a quiet life in the countryside. How did he become so familiar with James?
But one thing was clear to Lawrence.
When William mentioned his name, Emily deliberately changed the subject, and James helped cover for her.
Lawrence sensed something was off.
To confirm his suspicions, he casually picked up the cane James had thrown earlier and placed it by the chair. “Grandpa, here’s your cane.”
As he spoke, he moved closer to Emily, his slightly open collar revealing his chiseled collarbone and muscular chest.
With his face and physique, Lawrence was a head–turner anywhere.
Emily narrowed her eyes.
After three years together, she could easily tell he was doing this on purpose.
If it weren’t for William on the other end of the call, she would have kicked him away long ago. How could she let him get so close?
On the phone, William immediately noticed the handsome man who had appeared beside Emily.
“Is that Lawrence?”
William’s tone was surprised, as it was his first time seeing him in person.
Emily’s brows furrowed, and she was about to stop him from speaking when Lawrence sat down right next to her.
Accommodating her posture, his shoulder pressed tightly against hers, as if he was worried she might get tired. He held the phone higher for her.

They were so close that which Emily looked down, she saw Lawrence’s exposed chest.
His unique, cool scent enveloped her, and Emily’s face grew hol
She instinctively turned away, but when she looked up, her lips brushed against his Adam’s apple…
Emily’s mind went blank.
Her already flushed face turned even redder, her heart pounding wildly,
Lawrence, on the other hand, remained completely unfazed. She was sure she had touched him.
How could he be so calm?
Of course, he had no interest in her.
He liked Olivia.
Emily closed her eyes, trying to suppress her discomfort. If it weren’t for William watching, she would have pushed him away and left.
But Lawrence acted as if nothing had happened, leaning against her and greeting William on the phone.
“Grandpa, I’m Lawrence. Emily talks about you often. It’s my fault we haven’t visited you yet. How about we come see you tomorrow?”
On the other end, William sat in his living room, exuding a powerful presence. His sharp, authoritative demeanor was a far cry from a simple country farmer.
Seeing Emily and Lawrence so close, William was overjoyed. “Great, great. I’ll be thrilled to have you visit.”
“It’s our first meeting, so I have a gift for Lawrence. Consider it a belated wedding present.”
Emily’s heart skipped a beat. William was always generous, and if he mentioned a wedding gift, it was likely something
valuable.
She couldn’t let Lawrence take advantage of this.
“Grandpa, it’s our duty to visit you. There’s no need for gifts. Please keep your things; it’s too much trouble.”
“We’re family. What’s a little gift? But you two should hurry up. It’s been a while, and there’s no news. Next time we talk, I want to hear about my great–grandchild.”
“Alright, we’ll do as you say.”
Lawrence lowered his head, giving Emily a deep look, and agreed without hesitation.
Emily’s eyes widened, and she nudged him with her shoulder.
He was crazy.
What was he saying in front of William?

Emily’s face turned crimson, but she didn’t want to reveal anything in front of William and fames.
Gritting her teeth, she said, “Lawrence, take your hand off.”
Lawrence feigned ignorance. “You bumped into me first. Should’t you apologize instead of being so self–righteous?”
“Who told you to agree to everything?”
He leaned closer to her ear. “What did I say? Having kids with you–what’s wrong with that?”
Emily shivered, looking at him in disbelief. “You…”
