Chapter 8
“What the hell are you doing?” Matthew’s voice crackled through the phone.
Trembling with something between rage and disbelief. That’s when we realized the call had been connected for twenty minutes.
Nathan quickly ended it.
But Matthew wouldn’t let it go, calling my phone instead.
I ignored every call. “Your brother’s probably breaking speed limits getting here right now,” I said, slowly getting dressed.
“Don’t worry,” Nathan pulled me close.
“I’ll handle this.”
“What are you going to do?”
“You get some rest. Let me deal with him.”
I’d heard about the legendary bond between the brothers.
Nathan always protected Matthew unconditionally.
And Matthew, despite his wild ways, turned obedient around his older brother. I thought tonight would
end the same way.
We heard the roar of an engine outside. Then footsteps pounding up the stairs. The front door burst open.
Matthew didn’t hesitate. His fist connected with Nathan’s jaw before anyone could speak.
Blood trickled from Nathan’s split lip, but he didn’t fight back. He just stood there, taking his brother’s
rage.
“You hypocrite!” Matthew’s voice cracked.
“All those lectures about morals and ethics!”
Another punch landed. “She was mine!”
“No,” Nathan finally spoke, voice steady.

Chapter 8
“She was just a toy to you.”
“And what is she to you? A quick fuck to get back at me?”
“Watch your mouth.” Something in Nathan’s tone made Matthew step back.
The temperature in the room seemed to drop.
I’d never seen the brothers like this. One bleeding but composed, the other shaking with betrayal. Twenty–seven years of brotherhood hanging by a thread. All because of me.
Or maybe, I thought, watching Nathan’s eyes follow my every move…
This had been inevitable from the start.
