Giana didn’t ask any further.
She happened to have something important to discuss with me, and her expression was somewhat anxious.
She told me, “Our latest experimental subject, that sick monkey, experienced rejection this morning and died.
The new medicine is unstable and needs further adjustments.”
I calmly made a conclusion, completely different from the dejected and painful me when facing Kaleb.
Giana sighed, “What should we do? The experiment has been failing all along, and the new project is just a money
burner.
If we continue like this, the whole company will
go
broke.”
“Don’t worry, we won’t,” I smiled and promised in a low voice reassuringly. “The whole company” sounded big.
But in fact, there were only four people in total, including the two of us.
I was both a legal person and the sole drug developer.
Usually, only Giana, the manager, would come to assist me.
In my student days, I was the most outstanding student in school.
Not only did I have impressive academic achievements, but I also had a delicate and beautiful appearance.
I was the unforgettable school belle for many boys and the idol that girls admired.
The elders regarded me as the benchmark for them to educate their children.
I was like a legend, sensible and intelligent.
I began self–studying pharmacology in high school and chose a corresponding major in college to research specific drugs for rare diseases.
By my graduation, I already had several patents in hand.
I opened my own pharmaceutical company with the money I earned from patents, rented this not–so–big laboratory, and continued to pursue my dreams.
At this time, Giana grabbed my shoulders and exclaimed, “Oh, right! I forgot about your wealthy husband! Let him invest in us, and we will never have to worry again!”
I remained calm and refused, saying, “I accept funds from anyone but him.”
Giana thought that I just didn’t want to be looked down upon by Kaleb, so she kindly spoke up, “But life is cruel.
If we don’t have money, we can’t even afford our meals, let alone our dreams.”
“I’ll
go
do some part–time jobs.
Giving lectures to earn money and buy you a car.
Is that enough?” I joked while changing into protective clothing.
Giana saw my worried expression ease a bit, so she smiled and bantered, “Of course, enough.
Thank you, Ms.
Larson! You’re such a generous boss!”
