Chapter 15
I didn’t speak anymore.
Instead, I began to focus on observing and examining the dead experimental subject.
It wasn’t until sunset that I finally left the laboratory.
When I locked the door, I looked at my laboratory with a heavy heart.
Since I had already decided to divorce Kaleb, I wouldn’t allow him to interfere with my career.
It was just that I wasn’t sure how much longer my laboratory could last.
Just after I came back from the grocery store and was about to go home to cook, my phone rang.
It was Kaleb.
We had been married for two years, but this was his first time calling me on his own initiative.
Did he suddenly have a change of mind and prepare to have a serious discussion with me about getting a divorce?
I suppressed the uneasiness in my heart and hesitantly pressed the answer button.“Hello? What’s the matter?”
“Katrina…” Kaleb’s voice came through, not very clear.
But the sorrow in his tone could be noticed through his trembling voice.“My grandpa… passed away.” Kaleb’s grandfather, Logan Barton, was a retired teacher.
Because he couldn’t get used to life in the modern city, he always lived in a small villa in the countryside. Back then, when I married Kaleb, Logan was the happiest.
His congratulatory gifts for my marriage with Kaleb included a lot of money, gold, and many other things. When the other elders in the Barton family frequently urged me to have children, Logan didn’t.
Instead, he let me follow my own pace.
Every time I had a conflict with Kaleb, I would think of Logan, the kind and gentle old man, and advise myself to endure a little longer, thinking that there might be a chance that Kaleb would change.
I had long regarded Logan as my own grandfather and really couldn’t bear to see him sad. Unexpectedly, on the day when my marriage with Kaleb finally reached its breaking point, Logan passed away.
my heart. As I numbly packed my luggage, a hint of relief somehow arose in
I thought maybe this was a good thing.
At least, Logan wouldn’t see Kaleb and my ferocious and hysterical argument over the divorce.
And this ridiculous and chaotic marriage wouldn’t hurt more people.
When Kaleb informed me of Logan’s death, he was still inspecting factories in the suburbs.
It would take at least two hours for him to get back home.
