My heart was pounding, and my breathing was irregular. Although I didn’t say it out loud, my gaze towards Kaleb was a blatant scolding. Was he out of his mind? There was no need to continue the conversation. I picked up the backpack on the chair next to me and stomped towards the door. I changed my shoes at the entrance. Kaleb walked over quickly. I put on my shoes and turned the doorknob. A loud bang came. The halfway–open door was pushed back by a large hand behind me. The sound frightened me, causing my body to tremble and stiffen. I tightly held onto my backpack, timidly turning around and nervously looking up at him.
Kaleb propped the door with one hand, looking down at me. For me, his robust physique was pressing down on me. The dangerous aura was like an invisible giant claw, tightly gripping my neck, making it difficult for me to breathe. My heart was beating rapidly, and I felt an inexplicable sense of fear and unease. I knew that women were weaker than men. Never before had I had such a profound perception at this moment. Whether it was my build, my strength, or my presence, I felt like a lamb in a wolf’s jaws. One wrong move from him, and I would crumble like dry leaves. My clear eyes were filled with panic, and I timidly whispered, “You… You shouldn’t act recklessly. Impulsiveness won’t lead to good results.”
Kaleb’s eyes were as sharp as a fierce beast, and his voice was hoarse and cold. “Katrina, remember, it is not your place to be restless and seek pleasure.”
I explained nervously, “I just want to go to work. That’s all.”
Kaleb released me and took a step back. I turned around and ran out, leaving the door wide open in a state of panic. I didn’t know how I had come this far to the Drug Development Institute. I sat in the laboratory with an empty mind.
“Katrina…”
I felt a push. When I came to my senses, I looked at the person who pushed me. Giana furrowed her brows and looked at me with a confused expression. “What are you daydreaming about?”
I sat upright, withdrew my gaze, and shook my head.“Nothing.”
Giana sighed softly, feeling frustrated. “The only person who can distract you in the laboratory is probably your husband.”
