“Katrina.” A gentle man’s voice came through.
I turned my head and saw my younger brother–in–law, Roy, approaching with a glass of wine, his affectionate gaze mixed with a hint of mischief, not hiding his love for me. He looked me up and down, sincerely exclaiming, You look beautiful today.”
My scalp tingled. Danna heard the sound; her face darkened; she bid farewell to the guests beside her and walked up to Roy. She forcefully patted his arm and whispered, “No respect, call her Sister.”
Roy put his arm around Danna’s shoulder, smiled knowingly, and took a sip of his drink. Danna impatiently pushed his hand away.“Be more serious.”
“Okay… I got it, Grandma,” Roy said, elongating the last syllable as if he was being playful. He then turned around and took two glasses of mixed drinks from the table, walking over to me and handing me a glass of pink–colored
one.
“Sister, could you accompany me for a drink?” Roy said affectionately, his gentle tone carrying a hint of pleading.“Just one drink; it’s my way of showing my admiration for Sister.”
It was impolite to refuse the wine politely offered by my uncle on such occasions. I hesitated for a few seconds and reached out to take it. Roy’s smile suddenly became radiant, with his eyebrows and eyes curved. He raised his glass and lightly touched it with mine. The light and pleasant clinking of glasses; Roy’s eyes gleamed like fire as he stared directly at me. He slowly and calmly tilted his head back and drank the entire contents of the glass.
“I did it.” Roy placed the empty cup in front of me.“You can do whatever you want.”
I was not pretentious either; holding a glass of wine, I drank it slowly. The wine in the cup was already scarce, with a hint of sweetness, and I finished it in one gulp.
