Kaleb obviously didn’t expect me to show up here. I was introverted, not fond of socializing, and even less fond of attending parties. But today, I came, breaking all precedents. I looked at him, and in that moment of eye contact, our already distant relationship seemed even more unfamiliar.
Kaleb averted his gaze, greeted the classmate next to him, and turned around to walk towards me.
Shawn couldn’t help but tease, “I never would have thought that Katrina and her friend were our alumni, and from the same year. Kaleb, you hid it so well.”
Marshall nudged Shawn with his elbow and asked, “When did you see him mention anything about Katrina?”
Kaleb’s gaze fell on my gloomy face as he spoke lightly, “If I had known you were coming too, I would have given you a ride along the way.”
I forced a faint smile and said, “What a coincidence; I didn’t expect you to be a fellow alumn.”
Kaleb smiled and remained silent, with deep and mysterious eyes that were difficult to fathom. The seemingly distant relationship, yet it was displayed so naturally.
Giana couldn’t help but ask, “Kaleb, Katrina and I were inseparable for four years in college, but we never met you. Did we really not know each other in college?”
“I didn’t know,” Kaleb answered gently.
“You and Katrina are really fated.” Giana muttered in her heart:*It’s just a pity that it’s a doomed fate.* Shawn added, “Stanford University is so big, and there are so many people; it’s not easy to know everyone.”
At that moment, a couple holding hands walked over. They were Kaleb’s old classmates, Cody Gore and his girlfriend Rosa Nisbet. A few people exchanged a few greetings. Giana and I stood on the side, looking somewhat out of place.
Kaleb suddenly extended his hand and calmly introduced, “This is my wife, Katrina, and her friend, Giana. They were both in the pharmaceutical department.”
Cody politely greeted me; I blushed slightly and awkwardly responded. Married for two years, Kaleb had never formally introduced me to friends, and this current behavior made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
Shawn sighed, “Four years after graduation, each and every one of you has achieved success in both career and love. It truly makes others envious.”
Just at that moment, someone behind called out, “Giana, Katrina!”
