*KAIUS! Come back to yourself!” Frost’s voice cut through the tension, sharp with command.
Kaius didn’t seem to hear him, his focus entirely on me. His fingers moved between my legs instinctively, the wet sounds of his thrusting making my cheeks burn with embarrassment as his tongue licked at the fresh mark he’d just made on me.
‘Listen to me Kaius,” Frost tried again, his voice became sharper. “You don’t want her hurt, remember?”
Something in those words seemed to reach through Kaius’s hormone induced state, He blinked, awareness slowly returning to his eyes. His grip on me loosened, and he stepped back, putting distance between us.
“I’m sorry. I can’t…” He didn’t finish the sentence. Without another word, he turned and left the room, the door slamming behind him with finality.
The sudden quiet was deafening. I stood frozen, trying to process what had just happened. My body hummed with a confusing mixture of fear, relief, and something else…
The truth was, for a moment there, I hadn’t wanted him to stop. And that terrified me more than anything.
Frost approached cautiously, retrieving a robe from the back of a chair. He held it out to me, his eyes carefully averted, I took it gratefully, wrapping it around myself. Somehow it felt like a shield I desperately needed.
Thank you,” I said softly, embarrassment coloring my voice. “For stopping him.”
Frost’s ice–blue eyes studied me for a moment, too perceptive for comfort. “You didn’t seem to want him to stop though. The marking affects both parties in ways neither expects.”
Heat rushed to my cheeks. I couldn’t deny it, not when he’d witnessed everything. Instead, I turned away, busying myself with adjusting the robe’s sash.
“Kaius’s father seemed rather unpleased at the fact that he was breaking the tradition,” I said, deliberately changing the subject. “I saw his reaction.”
Frost accepted the diversion with grace. “Alpha Alaric needs to be reminded that he is no longer an Alpha here and some things need to change. The old ways aren’t always right.” He paused, watching me. “But that wasn’t Kaius’s only reason for doing that.”
This caught me by surprise. “It wasn’t? What else could it be?”
“No,” Frost said, his expression softening slightly, “Did you really think he would let the whole pack see you naked? Exposed? He may be many things, but he doesn’t share what he considers his.”
His words struck me as oddly contradictory to what I’d witnessed. “You’ve seen me naked. Twice,” I pointed out, summoning courage from somewhere. “Doesn’t seem like something he’s particularly concerned about.”
Frost almost smiled. “Is that why you’re avoiding eye contact with me? You needn’t worry–I was focused on my duties, not your body.”
I forced myself to meet his gaze, determined to prove I wasn’t as affected as he thought. “No. I’m making eye contact now. See? It’s nothing.”
“You are shy beneath that defiance,” he observed, amusement warming his tone. “It’s… unexpected.”
“No, I am not,” I insisted, though the lie was transparent even to me I simply prefer privacy, which seems in short supply here.”
