Kaden’s POV
I walked up the stairs to my suite. I had to push my wolf to the furthest back of my mind as it kept scratching at the surface of my mind, urging me to check up on his mate. The truth was I couldn’t care.
She had, for a brief moment, served her purpose of giving me the entertainment I needed. She couldn’t give me anything in real life so I had to let her go.
She had no status
No family
She didn’t even have a wolf, at least not a properly functional one.
I opened the door to find my Luna sitting in the middle of the room, facing the door.
“You went to her, didn’t you?”
You could tell that she was trying her best to not look as upset as she felt.
“You wouldn’t understand,” I heaved, walking towards the bed. My wolf was always irritated with her presence, but I never minded it. we were two different personalities in one body contrasting each other.
“Leave it be,” I growled but she wasn’t having it. I honestly didn’t see her actually backing down. She was an alpha, pure blooded too, so she never had to subject herself to others before, except her parents.
“I should leave it be?” she rebutted.
It looked like I had said the wrong thing. But then again, I always said the wrong things to her.
“I?? Me? I’m not the one who runs to that.. that piece of trash!! Each and every time you hear something about her!” I felt my wolf stir at the obvious disrespect towards its mate, but I shoved it down. There was no need to make the scene bigger than it already was.
“Look, I’m sorry,”
“Sorry? You were on top of me Kaden!” The anger In her voice melted, all that was left was pure. unadulterated pain. “You were making love to me, just to leave me. I thought it was for something dangerous, I thought maybe the pack was under attack, just to find out you went to her.”
“I just-” she cut me off and continued talking.
“No, I don’t want to hear it. Tonight was supposed to be our night. The night we marked each other.” She looked at me with tears in her eyes. I really did feel like an asshole “and you blew it, what hurts more is you went to another woman.” She said shaking her head, standing up to go to the inner chamber where her things were.
I buried my head in my palm. “Why do I have to fuck everything up!” I was met with silence.
Most people could communicate with their wolves but mine had put up a barrier since I picked Camille as my mate. The only time he revealed his presence was around Lucia.
I kind of felt bad for him, I was depriving him of his mate, but at the same time, I couldn’t really do anything about it.

“Alpha,” Eric bowed as I entered the pack grounds.
“You look like shit,” I commented on his appearance to which he just smiled. He really did look like shit. All the other wolves were sparring with their partners, so that just left the two of us.
“Any progress on your mate?” I asked, trying to make him look a bit alive. I saw the spark in his eyes before he practically shoved it to the side.
“You know I can’t … not after ..” his eyes grew dead, getting more into his fighting stance and trying to attack me from the side, which I dodged gracefully.
“Hey,” I blocked his next attack, going for his arm, but I only managed to deliver a weak blow, doing little to no damage. “Whatever happened to Ava isn’t your fault. There was no
way you could have saved her.”

It didn’t seem to calm him down, it did anything but that, instead, he looked more enraged.
“It’s all my fault!” At this point, he was fighting without rhythm, throwing his hands anywhere and everywhere he could. “I should have been there. I should have told her to leave there, but what did I do?” he screamed, almost erratic at this point.
I tackled him to the ground.
“Snap out of it!” I growled at his shaking frame.
The others were wise to act like nothing was happening and keep on sparring. “You were not at fault! It was nobody’s, okay? Now you have a mate, you have the duty to protect this one,” he shook his head no.
