Chapter 155
After hesitating for a few seconds, I hung up the phone call and walked out of the Drug Development Institute. Kaleb’s car was stopped by the roadside, but he didn’t get out. As I walked by, the car window slowly rolled down, and he handed over a brown paper bag.
I looked puzzled and took a glance at it. It contained two boiled eggs and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Even through the bag, I could feel the residual warmth of the eggs. My gloomy mood gradually cleared, and a hint of warmth flowed through me.
Kaleb said softly, “Next time Annalise comes, you don’t have to open the door.” I nodded, as if I had misunderstood Annalise, and felt a hint of guilt.
I’d never asked about his affairs, but the warm eggs and fresh orange juice gave me courage. I asked, “Is Annalise your secretary?”
“Um,” Kaleb said in a low tone.“Did you mind?”
“No, just asking casually.”
In this marriage, I had always been sensible and humble, never arguing or fighting, never crying or making a scene, trying my best to be understanding and not wanting Kaleb to think I was jealous, petty, or annoying. I would choose not to believe as long as there was no evidence of any rumors. No matter how much Kaleb spent playing outside, as long as I couldn’t see it, I treated it as if it didn’t exist.
Kaleb remained silent with a calm face, as the car window slowly closed and the car drove away.
I returned to the office with the breakfast in my hands, feeling better, a smile spreading across my face. Giana walked over and looked through my bag, surprised. She said, “Kaleb actually brought you breakfast? But this breakfast is a bit meager.”
“How abundant can homemade food be?” I snatched the bag back and muttered under my breath, “Besides, he wouldn’t do anything else.”
“What did he do?” Giana raised an eyebrow and smiled, snatching my juice away. “Did he also freshly squeeze the orange juice himself?”
My cheeks turned slightly red, my ears felt hot, and I shyly snatched back the juice, my voice timidly saying, “Stop it, you’re embarrassing me.”
