Chapter21.
“You’re sending Sophia to work as someone’s secretary? Have you lost your mind?!” someone
immediately retorted.
“Sophia is incredibly capable, young, beautiful, and has a stellar track record. What CEO wouldn’t be interested? Sending her to the job market is like throwing a steak to a pack of wolves
– those headhunters would be all over her in an instant.”
I remained silent, a small smile playing on my lips. My wolf commented, “THEY ARE REALLY
CUTE!
In fact, they underestimated the headhunters‘ keen sense of smell. About ten days ago, someone had already called me, subtly inquiring about my future career plans. At that time, the news of my departure from Horizon Group hadn’t even leaked to the public.
The conversation continued.
“Don’t be so shortsighted. What’s wrong with being a secretary? It’s the “chief secretary to Kingston Group’s heir! She’ll gain access to the top echelon of MoonCloud Pack’s social circles. If she does well, her future is limitless.”

“I know a company overseas where a highly competent secretary to Vice President within a few years and found love, even becoming the CEO’s partner.”
“Hey, if
you put it that
it that way, I’d even apply!”
“What does Kingston Group’s heir actually look like? Has anyone seen him? Is he handsome?” “No one has seen him in the whole MoonCloud Pack. Of the four Shaw children, only the eldest daughter has appeared publicly; the other three are quite mysterious.”
The group’s chatter veered off into increasingly irrelevant tangents.
I listened, a mixture of amusement and exasperation washing over me. Seeing their hopeful anticipation of romance made me feel like a detached nun. Romance was something I wouldn’t touch again. The failed bonding relationship hurt me a lot. But my career… that was something I could consider.
I wanted to start my own business, but I realized my network revolved around Jason, the Head Warrior of the Pack. Once I severed ties with him, who would still give me the time of day? I needed to gild the lily, so to speak.
That evening, I called Ivy Young, a socialite who frequented the circles of the wealthy and powerful, to inquire about Kingston Group and its enigmatic heir.
A languid laugh came from the other end of the line. “Spying on other men, aren’t you afraid of making your Mr. Winter jealous? His werewolf possessiveness is quite strong.”
“He can do what he wants; it doesn’t concern me.”

“Darling, you two… you haven’t really broken up, have you?” Ivy Young asked curiously.
“Not yet,” I replied vaguely.
Ivy understood immediately. She sighed, “So the rumors I heard are true. You’ve been together for eight years! Jason is a terrible person.
Ivy, ever blunt, prompted me to play the victim. “So I have to plan for myself. I heard the heir is hiring a secretary, and I want to try.”
“Let’s get something straight. Is this about the man or the money?”
“I only trust the money god for the rest of my life.”
“Hahaha…” a charming, hearty laugh erupted from the other end.“Leave it to me. I’ll make sure you meet this money god.”
Thank you.”
“Wait for my good news.”
After hanging up, I returned to my computer. The online information about Xander Shaw was pitifully scarce. “Xander Shaw…” I murmured the name, pondering the importance of understanding the “money god’s” personality and preferences beforehand.
Just then, the study door opened.
Jason walked in.
I closed my laptop.
We each had our own study. In the past, when our love was intense, we would always be together. Later, it gradually became a strictly professional relationship; we would return home after work and remain undisturbed.
“Something wrong?” I looked
- up.
“Can’t I come in if nothing’s wrong?”
“…Yes, of course.” “You can even come in naked after I’m gone,” I thought.
Jason’s eyes flickered suspiciously towards the computer. He’d come in, and I’d closed my laptop; clearly, I was preventing him from seeing it.
