Chapter41.
I left my parents‘ house at six in the morning. Usually, Dad would be off for his morning exercise, and Mom would be up making breakfast, but today they were both still asleep, having only gone to bed at around two–thirty in the morning. They’d pulled an all–nighter. I left a note on the refrigerator.
After disguising myself and leaving Blue Court, I took a taxi to Summer’s place. Summer opened the door with two huge dark circles under her eyes.
“Is Jason even a werewolf?! He’s a beast! No, calling him a beast is too kind! And Tanner and his mother–they’re worse than pigs and dogs!”
From the moment I received her call in the early morning and told her what happened last night, she was furious, ready to tear them apart. Summer was incredibly agitated. I, on the other hand, was strangely calm.
After entering her apartment and changing into slippers, I said, “Is there anything in the fridge? I’ll make breakfast.”
Summer was stunned.“…. You still have the appetite for breakfast?”
I took off my coat and put it aside, then gently pushed my fuming friend onto the sofa.“It’s not worth starving over those pigs and dogs, you know? We need to eat first, then we’ll have the energy to deal with them.”
I was about to pull my hand away.
“Wait…” Summer held my wrist, staring at the two deep, bloody red marks. A chill ran down her spine.“They even tied your hands in that situation. They didn’t leave you any room to breathe.” “Yeah,” I said, a hollow laugh escaping my lips.“They didn’t leave me any room to breathe.” “Tanner’s viciousness is one thing, but Jason…” Summer’s voice caught in her throat.“Even if he doesn’t love me anymore, we could just break up. Was it necessary to be so cruel? We were together for seven years! seven years! For a new mistress he’s known for less than half a year, could be so ruthless. I really… I just can’t understand it. Werewolves are naturally loyal to their partners.”
“To please his mistress, he’s capable of anything.”
“But before, he was searching everywhere for you, acting like he still cared!”
Cared? Heh…
he
“Do
you
know he’s announcing his bonding engagement to Tanner tonight?”
“What?!”
Summer
spun around, shocked.“You’re not even divorced yet! Wait…” A terrible thought occurred to her.“Did he already know you made him sign the divorce papers?” I pursed my lips.“I considered that possibility.”

Summer continued, “Could it be that he set this all up from the beginning? His mother kept me distracted while he deliberately provoked me, strengthening my resolve to divorce him. Once the divorce agreement and compensation agreement took effect, he could not only get divorced but also wouldn’t have to pay a cent in compensation.”
“If you refused, he’d use the video to blackmail you. To prevent the video from being released, you’d have to swallow your pride. That way, he and Tanner could be together without any worries.”
“This man is terrifying…”
My wolf and I fell into deep thought. Was that really it? Recalling Jason’s actions and Tanner’s words from last night, there seemed to be some inconsistencies in the logic.“Summer, I need your help with something.”
Summer, her head filled with righteous anger towards the scumbag and the vile woman, declared, “Just tell me. I’ll do anything!”
Seven o’clock in the evening. The Peninsula Hotel ballroom.
Magnificent crystal chandeliers, softly flowing classical music, and elegantly dressed wealthy elites mingled amidst the clinking of glasses, creating a classic scene of the world of wealth and
power.
Tonight’s charity gala was organized by Vera. Half of MoonCloud Pack’s wealthy families were invited, especially the Cooper family, who came in full force. Anyone could see that something big was about to happen.
Tanner had been holding Jason’s arm since they arrived, occasionally glancing at her phone. Her wolf was angrily shouting in her mind,“WHAT’S WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE? THEY’RE NOT ANSWERING YOUR CALLS, NOR ARE THEY SENDING THE VIDEO. WHAT’S GOING ON?”
Tanner couldn’t stop overthinking. Did it fail? No way, I got them in bed, it shouldn’t fail. And if it had failed, I would have heard from Sophia by now. Could it be… that they played her to death, and she’s hiding in fear?
