Chapter 129
The Shadow King turned to leave, his dark figure moving like a specter through the hall. “We will meet again soon to finalize the terms. Until then, keep your spy in check.”
Helios smiled as the shadow king dematerialised, thinking he was able to talk through to the king. He smiled towards Tharlor, something, the spy found odd but he said nothing.
Helios did not notice though as he was now used to smiling at Lucía and had become used to showing his emotions around her.
“we would most likely stay the” a shadow wraith approached them or rather Tharlor, with a speed none of them had time to prepare for, with what little time Helios had and on impulse, he shoved Tharlor out of the way, causing the wraith to pass through him, going straight to his heart
“my lord!!!!‘ he rushed to him, falling by his side, arching his head and trying to help him to not hit his head on the floor..
“They move too quickly,” he said, frustration evident in his voice. “We can’t predict where they’ll strike next.” He said hoisting Helios up and carrying him as best as he could.
…
Helios looked at his trusted spy, seeing the weariness in his eyes. “Tharlor, I need you to I need.” He was choking, he was barely able to breath.
“get what you need yourself my lord, when you get over this” he grunted from the weight of Helios
As Tharlor turned to leave, Helios placed a hand on his shoulder. “Be careful, its… clear.. he cant be trusted”
Tharlor nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.
The journey to the edge of the kingdom was fraught with danger. The wraiths had left a trail of destruction in their wake, and Tharlor could see that with each second that passed his king grew weaker. He moved quickly, his keen senses alert to any signs of danger. The forest grew darker and more foreboding as he approached the last known location of the wraiths.
Suddenly, a chilling wind swept through the trees, and Tharlor felt a presence behind him. He turned swiftly, his hand reaching for the dagger at his waist. But before he could react, a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness, its eyes glowing with malevolent
intent.
The wraith lunged at Tharlor, its spectral form moving with unnerving speed. Tharlor dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding its grasp. He countered with a swift strike, his dagger slicing through the wraith’s ethereal body. The creature let out an unearthly screech, but it did not slow its attack.
Tharlor fought with all his might, but the wraiths were relentless. He knew he could not hold them off forever. Helios was long kept to the side and he crawled on his belly to get to the end of the forest. That was the mark of the realm and he could heal himself
Tharlor felt a cold chill creep down his spine “my Lord! Where are- He turned, sensing a presence behind him. Before he could react, a searing pain shot through his back. He staggered, looking down to see a dark blade protruding from his chest.
The world around him blurred, and he fell to his knees. Helios cried out in horror, rushing to his fallen friend. “Tharlor! No!”
Tharlor’s vision dimmed, but he managed to turn his head. Behind him stood a figure cloaked in shadows, the same malevolent eyes he had seen in the shadow king’s palace staring back at him. It was another wraith, and it had followed him.
“Helios…,” Tharlor whispered, his voice fading. “Beware the shadows.
Helios, reaching the end of the forest summoned his magic, a golden light emanating from his hands as he struck at the wraith. The creature let out a final, haunting scream before dissipating into nothingness. Helios knelt beside Tharlor, his heart heavy with grief.
