CHAPTER 4

Waking to see Landon sitting on the edge of my bed really scared the hell out of me. I practically started climbing the backboard of my bedframe. But he just sat there, staring at me. He had such an intense look in his eyes. He cracked a little smirk on his face and he moved closer to me, after I had moved further away from him. “What are you doing in here?” I asked. “I’m sorry if I scared you.” He said. “What?” I asked, confused. “In the forest. I’m sorry if I scared you. I know that you weren’t spying on us.” He said. “How do you know that? I know what it looked like.” I said. “Well, you weren’t, were you?” He asked. “I told you. I was out jogging.” I said, trying to move further away from him. “You don’t have to be scared of me. I’m not here to hurt you.” He said. I realized that I had been moving over further on my bed as he was sitting there, trying to get further away from him. When I realized I was in the middle of the King size bed, I sat on the bed properly instead of practically climbing the bedframe and I started to relax a little more. I looked down at my hands that were fiddling with the bedding as Landon’s eyes never moved away from my face. “How did you get those scars?” He asked. “Accidents. I had a lot of accidents when I was a kid.” I said. “Yeah. I can imagine what sort of accidents you had.” He said. I looked up at him and his expression had changed. Almost like he had figured it out without me saying anything. But I looked down again really quickly. I felt Meadow trying to come to the front so she could be closer to Landon, but I pushed her back and kept her locked up at the back of my mind. If she tried to start talking to me then my eye color would change and he would see it. I didn’t want him to see it. “What are you thinking right now?” He asked. “I’m wondering why you’re here.” I said. “You’ve been in here a long time. You missed lunch. It’s getting dark.” He said. So I looked out the window and I realized that the sun was disappearing. I guess I was more tired than I thought I was. It had been a really massive couple of days. But even I was surprised at how long I had slept. “Why do you care? I thought you didn’t care what I did.” I said. “I’ve been thinking about it all day. I think I might have been a little too harsh on you at the wedding.” He said. “What are you saying?” I asked, confused. “I’m going to sleep here tonight.” He declared. “What?” I practically shouted. “I’m going to sleep here tonight. Is that a problem?” He asked. I looked down for a minute while my hands were playing with the sheets. “Of course not. We are married afterall. But I need a shower.” I said, slowly climbing off the bed. “I’ll be waiting.” He said. So I went into the bathroom and I closed the door. I started pacing around the bathroom and I grabbed my pills and I took one of them before Meadow finally came to the front as I was turning the shower on. “He wants to be with us.” Meadow said. “He said that he didn’t want me as a wife. He didn’t want a wolfless human as a wife. Why the hell would he change his mind now? Especially after he accused me of spying on him this morning?” I asked. Meadow had to stop and think about it. She even thought that it was a little strange as well. I got undressed and got into the shower, after I was sure the door was locked because I didn’t want him barging in on me. “Meadow. What the f**k am I going to do? Even if I wanted to because he’s my husband, he’s a man w***e. He’s a complete playboy. I don’t want to go there with him. I don’t know what the hell those whores have given him.” I said. “I don’t think he’s diseased.” She said. “You don’t know that. Neither of us do.” I said. I stayed in the shower, panicking for longer than I realized because pretty soon Landon was knocking on the door, so I turned the water off. “Yeah.” I sang out. “Is everything alright in there? You’re taking a long time.” He said in a strange voice. “Yeah. I’ll be out in a minute.” I said. I dried off and I wrapped my dressing gown around me. I looked at myself in the mirror one more time before I walked out into the bedroom. Landon was leaning against the wall, waiting for me. But when I walked out of the bathroom, I sat on the edge of the bed. I saw him looking me up and down, not that he could really see any skin with my ankle length dressing gown on. I was getting increasingly nervous, especially when he started walking closer to me. He put his finger under my chin and forced me to look up at him. “Why won’t you look at me?” He asked. “I don’t know.” I stuttered out. My heart was racing and my breath was getting caught in my throat. He grabbed me by the hand and he pulled me up so I was standing in front of him. He leaned forward and used his hand to brush a bit of my hair out of my face as he stared into my eyes. He then pulled me closer to him so we were chest to chest. I could feel his warm breath on my face and he leaned down, using one of his hands to force my face up to meet his. As our lips slowly met, it almost felt like fireworks erupting. I felt his hand wrap around my back and I brought me hands up to rest them on his arms. But when I heard him moan lowly, he suddenly stopped. He looked at me with an indecipherable look on his face and he took a step back. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “I have to go. I can’t do this.” He said. “Landon.” I said, confused. But he quickly turned around and left my room really quickly, closing the door behind him. “Meadow. What the hell did you do?” I asked. “That wasn’t me. But did you feel that?” She asked. “It was pretty intense.” I said. “Yeah. Just a bit.” She scoffed.
