Chapter 6
Maxwell’s POV
“There’s a young woman with you. Call her out. I need to speak with her.”
“Delilah?” the woman muttered under her breath, but I caught the name. So, her name
is Delilah.
“I’m sorry, Your Majesty,” she said nervously. “Your servant, Delilah, is not in a condition to meet you right now.”
“What happened to her?” I cut in sharply, my Alpha tone slipping through.
Her eyes widened, and her body tensed. Fear rippled off her in waves. I took a steadying breath, realizing I needed to calm down. Scaring her wouldn’t help.
“I… I don’t know,” she stammered. “I was about to call a doctor. She came in this morning, sobbing, and then, a little while ago, her body changed. She….she passed out.”
“What?” My heart clenched. “Take me to her. Now.”
She flinched but quickly turned to lead the way. I followed close behind, my worry growing stronger with every step.
When we reached a small room, her scent hit me like a wave, stronger than ever. Before the woman could open the door, I pushed it open myself. There she was, lying on a small bed, shivering uncontrollably.
I stepped forward, my hand instinctively reaching for her. The moment my fingers brushed her skin, the familiar spark ignited, this time even stronger. Without hesitation, I scooped her up into my arms and turned to leave.
The woman followed behind, practically running to keep up with my long strides. As we stepped outside, my bodyguard sprang into action, opening the SUV’s back door.
“To the palace. Immediately,” I commanded, my voice brooking no argument.
I gently laid Delilah down in the car and turned to the woman. “Get into one of the other cars. You’re coming with me.”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” she said with a shaky bow. Vale, my guard, helped her into a car before joining the convoy.
Inside the SUV, I held Delilah close to my chest. Her skin burned with fever, and worry clawed at my heart. Was this my fault? Had I been too rough with her? I tried to be gentle after realizing how innocent she was, but… she had wanted it too. She had wanted more, and I couldn’t refuse her.
I sighed, conflicted and filled with guilt. Maybe I shouldn’t have gone to her at all.
“She is our mate,” Zion growled in my head.
“This is your fault, Zion. If anything happens to her, I’ll never forgive you.”

“We did what was right. Would you have let someone else claim her?” he snapped back. “She’ll be fine.”
I could only hope he was right. Pressing my lips to the top of her head, I whispered, “I‘ m sorry, my love. I’ll fix this. I promise.”
I gently shifted her in my arms, pulling out my phone. “Call the healer. Tell her to meet me at the palace. Now,” I ordered Vale before ending the call.
Next, I mind–linked my Beta.
‘What’s going on? You didn’t come back last night. I heard you stayed at that hotel.’
‘I’ll explain later. Meet me at the palace. I’m almost there.’
Cutting the link, I turned my attention back to Delilah. I hadn’t gotten a good look at her before. Now, even in her fragile state, her beauty left me breathless. Gently, I brushed her silky blonde hair aside, and I lifted her hand and pressed a kiss to her knuckles.
Her eyelids fluttered open briefly, but she didn’t speak. Her condition was worsening. Fear clawed at me as her eyes closed again and her breathing slowed.
“Delilah!” I shook her lightly, but she didn’t respond. Panic surged as her body went limp in my arms. My vision darkened with rage and fear, but before I could spiral further, the car pulled up to the palace.
Without waiting for anyone to open the door, I stepped out, cradling her tightly. Time was running out. She couldn’t leave me now, not when I’d only just found her.
“Your Majesty, I came as soon as I received the call,” Rosa, the healer, said, bowing respectfully.
“Please, check her! She isn’t breathing,” I panted, panic gripping me. I couldn’t bear the thought of losing her. My hand, combing through my hair.
Rosa stepped forward and examined her. Her hands moved over her body with careful precision. To an outsider, it might look like something intimate, but I knew she was just doing her job.
“I need someone to move her inside,” Rosa commanded firmly.
“How is she?” I demanded, desperate for answers.
“She’ll be fine, Your Majesty,” Rosa replied. “She’s fighting serious battles within her body. It will take time, but she’s strong. She will overcome these challenges. Now, we must get her inside immediately.”
The bodyguards moved forward to lift her, but I let out a low growl, my glare stopping them in their tracks. They froze, and I ignored the maids who had lined up to greet me.
‘No one touches her, I’ll carry her myself, I declared firmly, my tone leaving no room for argument. Without waiting for a response, I bent down, gathered her in my arms, and strode inside

The elevator dinged and the doors slid open. I stepped out swiftly and carried her into a room adjacent to mine. I wanted her close, where I could keep an eye on her.
Rosa and the elderly woman followed me inside. The older woman’s face was etched with worry, she seemed to have a deep connection with Delilah.
“Your Majesty, this woman needs her husband,” Rosa said, her voice tinged with
urgency.
“Her husband?” I asked, my brows furrowing. “She’s married?”
