“I was only trying to be nice.” He passed me a fork, his fingers brushing mine in a touch that felt deliberate.
We ate in comfortable silence for a few minutes, but questions nagged at me, demanding answers. “Uhmm, Frost… I wanted to know
if this bothers you; I mean, I can’t keep pretending; I love the both of you, but….”
“Elowen, you have nothing to explain. I am not bothered.” His immediate response surprised me.
“Really?” I searched his face for signs of hurt of resentment, finding none.
“You wanna know a secret?” he asked, leaning forward slightly.
“Yes.” I mirrored his movement, intrigued.
“If you were ever going to be mine, I would have to settle with the fact that Kaius would want a taste of you every once in a while.” The casual way he said it belied the significance of the admission.
“And what if… I denied him?” The question slipped out before I could consider its implications.
“How did that work out for you earlier?” Frost’s eyebrow arched in challenge.
“Well. He hadn’t exactly forced me,” I clarified quickly.
“He would never have to. You don’t understand that you are the only one that can truly satisfy him.” There was a certainty in his voice that caught me off guard.
“And how would you know that?” I asked before I could stop myself. Forget I said that. It’s just… it seems hard to believe.”
Frost set his fork down, his expression serious. “Believe it or not. It is true; before you it had been casual and I could feel it, but
with you it is so much more that I can almost visualize it.”
A horrible realization dawned on me. “That must be weird for you.”
“Not really; what I would call weird is having to feel his pain; that is the really messy part because he always gets himself into problems.” He seemed remarkably casual about what I was beginning to understand as a profound connection.
“I can’t even imagine what this feels like.” My mind struggled to comprehend what he was describing–feeling someone else’s. emotions, especially such intimate ones.
“It is complicated. But does it freak you out?” A hint of vulnerability crept into his voice.
“Not really, just the fact that when I’m at it, it’s like I’m doing it with the both of you.” Heat flooded my face at the realization.
“Can’t you like… tune out?” I asked hopefully.
“Not really, but if I could, what makes you think I would?” A mischievous grin spread across his face.
“Oh my… You are such a jerk.” I threw a napkin at him, which he caught easily.
“Is it not like there is anything I can do about it?” He shrugged, still grinning.
After a moment, his expression turned more thoughtful. “Elowen, I don’t believe in fate, but you being here feels a lot like fate. Is Tike everything changed since you arrived here.”

Chapter 145
His words touched something deep within me. “I believe in fate; never did I think I’d ever be titled Queen Luna; it seems too much like some fairy tale.”
“Yet it is very much real, and there is no one more fitting for this position than you. The sincerity in his eyes made my throat tighten with emotion.
“For what it is worth… I’m glad we met,” I said softly, reaching across the table to squeeze his hand.
He opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted as the door burst open, and Thalia strode in as if she owned the place. Her ageless beauty was enhanced by the authority she carried like a cloak, her eyes sweeping the room before settling on us with cold
calculation.
