“Anything.” The word was a promise.
“I would only agree to your deal if there would be more touching involved…I want to be in control this time.” The boldness of my demand surprised even me.
“You are not very innocent, Elowen.” A smile played at the corners of his mouth.
“I never said I ever was. So do we have a deal… or not?” I held my breath, waiting.
“It would only be this once.” He set his condition firmly.
“I know how much you love being in control, but that is the deal.” I maintained eye contact, refusing to back down.
“How I would love to fuck you right now.” His voice roughened with renewed desire.
“I am sore, remember?” I reminded him, though my body was already responding to his proximity.
“Then let me help with that.” His hands skimmed down my body, finding places that made me gasp and arch against him.
This time was different–slower, more deliberate, with his focus entirely on and sated, my entire body humming with contentment.

“How do you feel now?” he asked, his voice rough with restrained desire.
The answer came easily, without thought or hesitation. “Kaius, I love you.”
“I love you more.” His response was immediate, his amber eyes soft with an emotion I’d once thought him incapable of.
“Kaius you are really… good at this.” I stretched again, feeling pleasantly languid.
“This‘ you mean sex?” Pride colored his tone.
“I knew you would go all cocky.” I rolled my eyes, but couldn’t suppress my smile.

“Sorry, it just feels so good to hear it from you.” He pulled me closer his arms a sanctuary I’d never thought to find in this place.
We remained that way for a long while, speaking in soft murmurs about nothing and everything. Eventually, my stomach rumbled audibly, breaking the intimate spell.
“Hungry?” Kaius asked, amusement dancing in his eyes.
“Yes, would you eat with me?” I didn’t want to leave the bubble of peace we’d created.
He hesitated, regret crossing his features. “You know I can’t.”
“You have work to attend to; it is okay for you to go; there is a lot to be done.” I tried to hide my disappointment.
I don’t want you alone; I can send in Frost.” His concern touched me.
“Do you think he would be okay? Seeing me like this.” I gestured to my disheveled state, suddenly self–conscious.
“Yes, Elowen, you don’t have to worry about hurting him.” Kaius pressed a final kiss to my forehead before rising to dress.

Chapter 143
After he left, I took my time putting myself back together, savoring the lingering sensations of our reconciliation. A maid arrived shortly after with a tray of food, her eyes carefully averted from my umpled appearance.
“Uhmm, I was asked to give you this, buna,” she said, placing an envelope beside the tray,
“Who sent this?” I asked, immediately wary.
“The Elder.”
My wariness turned to dread. “Thalia?”
“Yes, it had been from her.” The maid hovered nervously. “Is there anything else you need?”
“No, I am fine; you may leave.” I waited until the door closed behind her before picking up the envelope, my appetite suddenly
gone.
Inside was a simple note, written in elegant script:
Luna Elowen, I request a private audience with you at your earliest convenience. There are matters of great importance we must discuss, away from the King’s ears. Elder Thalia
I crumpled the note, tossing it into the fireplace where it curled and blackened among the flames. Whatever Thalia wanted, I had no interest in hearing it. She’d made her position clear when she flaunted herself in my bed, wearing Kaius’s robe. If she thought I’d grant her a private audience now, she was sorely mistaken.
