Chapter 152
“With you alive and free, you would remain a threat to the Queen. I cannot let that happen.”
Desperation crossed Lysandra’s face. “Then maybe we make a deal.”
“No, thank you,” I said immediately.
“Let’s say one would have to know that Elowen is not the Alpha’s true mate; I have multiple copies of the contract they had both signed.”
My blood ran cold. The information that could potentially undermine my position as Queen.
Frost’s voice was deadly calm. “Do you think you can threaten her? Who do you think they would believe, you–the crazy commander clearly desperate to become the Luna, or the Queen?”
I stepped forward suddenly, surprising myself as much as them. “Frost, let her go.”
Both Frost and Lysandra stared at me in shock.
“Please, just… let her go.”
“Listen to the Queen, Beta…” Lysandra began smugly.
“Shut up!” Frost and I snapped in unison.
I moved closer to Frost, keeping my voice low. “Listen to me; we would talk about it; trust me, just let her go.”
Reluctantly, Frost lowered the gun, suspicion evident in every line of his body. “I really hope you know what you are doing, Elowen.”
“Can you not tell Kaius about this?” I asked, already knowing the answer.
“It concerns your safety, so he would have to know, just to be conscious.”
“But he would throw her in the dungeons.”
Frost’s brow furrowed in confusion. “And you care because?”
“I just don’t feel like it is the right thing to do.” I couldn’t fully explain the instinct that led me to this decision.
“Oh, maybe it would be when she finally gets her way and hurts you
“She won’t; if she wanted me dead, she got her chances so many times.”
Frost’s eyes searched mine. “I cannot do what you ask of me; it is too dangerous and risky to keep this from us.”
“Please Frost…” I touched his arm gently. “I know you think it is foolish, but it is not.”
“Are you doing this to get her on your side? Because you would only be wasting your time. She would always see you as a threat.”
I shook my head. “I’m not trying to get her on my side. I just see her as a victim. Don’t get this the wrong way, but Kaius had used and played her many times; if he hadn’t led her on, she wouldn’t have the sick obsession to become the Luna. In a way, I feel sorry for her.”

After a long moment, Frost nodded reluctantly. “If she makes any more, no matter how little, then thats it?
“Fine.”
Lysandra stood frozen, clearly stunned by my unexpected intervention. I turned to her, my voice firm.
“This doesn’t make us friends. But I understand what it’s like to be manipulated by powerful men. Don’t make me regret this.
She nodded once, then disappeared through the garden paths without another word,
The truth was that I wasn’t very sure of the decision I made,
As I walked back to my chambers, doubts followed me like shadows. Had I been foolish to show mercy?
I pushed these thoughts aside as I reached the familiar door. Taking a deep breath, I stepped inside.
The room looked exactly as I remembered it–no trace of Thalia’s presence remained. The bed had been made with fresh linens, my personal items arranged on the dresser just as I’d left them. It was as if nothing had changed, though everything had.
“Welcome back; you know we should celebrate your return,” Kaius said, appearing from the bathroom with damp hair and a towel around his waist.
mind.
“Oh, we would celebrate; hope you haven’t forgotten our deal?” I reminded him, memories of his promise flashing through my
A slow smile spread across his face. “How could I forget?”
I moved further into the room, running my fingers along the edge of the dresser. “I need to ask you a question.”
“Well, I am all ears.”
“You never told me about your mother’s little hobby.”
His brow furrowed slightly. “She had many hobbies, so which in particular?”
“Writing?” I prompted. “I mean, she is the author of my ‘favorite‘ book; how could you not tell me that?”
Understanding dawned on his face, followed by amusement. “I think I preferred leaving you in the dark.”
“Didn’t it feel weird to you?”
“Why would it?”
I stared at him incredulously. “I don’t know, maybe because she is, uhm, your mother?”
Kaius shrugged, completely unbothered. “Her life, her choices. It’s just words on paper.”
“Words describing very explicit acts!”
“Which you enjoyed reading,” he pointed out, his eyes glinting with mischief.
I felt my cheeks heat. “That was before I knew who wrote them!”
He closed the distance between us, his still–damp body radiating heat. “Should we focus on something else now?”
Kaius moved to the bed, retrieving something from the nightstand drawer. When he turned back to me, he held a pair of silver

handcuffs that glinted in the soft light..
“I think you would like this belter,” he said, holding them up for my inspection.
What is that for?” I asked, though I had a suspicion.
“Our deal,” he reminded me. “You wanted to be in control.”
My heart raced as I watched him place the cuffs on the bed and begin removing his towel. Soon he stood before me completely bare. just as he had that night in Frost’s quarters. But this time, there was no hesitation, no vulnerability in his stance.
“Kaius, I don’t know if I could do this.” Suddenly the prospect of having complete control over him was intimidating father than empowering.
“Oh, you can, Elowen. Just don’t think too much.” He lay back on the bed, positioning his arms above his head. “Secure me.”
