Celeste caught up the nurse, bought the nurse’s clothes, removed the mask from her face and tucked it away, then carried her bag inside.
“Let me help you,” she said
The familiar voice made Marcus’s body stiffen. He looked up and met Celeste’s eyes.
When he saw her familiar eyes, he instinctively grabbed her wrist to check if she had the red bracelet he remembered.
Unfortunately, her wrist was clean, with nothing on it.
A flicker of disappointment crossed his eyes, and he couldn’t help asking. “Have we met somewhere before?”
Did he recognize me? Celeste wondered. She replied with a smile, “We have. A year ago, I got into a car accident, and you donated blood to save me in Kingston.
“A year ago? Kingston Searching through his memories for a moment, Marcus remembered. She must be that girl whose eyes were so
similar to his savior’s.
Back then, he donated blood without hesitation because of her captivating eyes.
If he recalled correctly, her face was disfigured then. But it looked perfect now.
Did she get plastic surgery? While murmuring inwardly, Marcus realized he was overthinking.
“Why are you here?” He glanced at her nurse uniform.
Tm a caregiver at this hospital. I heard you got injured and are hospitalized here. Just wanted to come by and thank you for saving my life a year ago. And then I saw you trying to get out of bed, so I thought I’d lend a hand,” Celeste replied.
Originally, she planned to help him as Celeste, but she feared he’d think she had ulterior motives and wouldn’t trust her.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, she decided to help him as a caregiver. So he wouldn’t misunderstand or overthink and would be more willing to accept her help.
Marcus, after hearing Celeste’s explanation, sat on the bed and looked at her, asking, “I remember your name is Celeste Sinclair, right?”
A year ago, the doctors kept calling her name, asking where her family was.
Celeste was pleasantly surprised that Marcus remembered her name after a year. “You still remember my name after all this time?”
“The doctor called it many times that it stuck” Marcus glanced at Celeste again and added, “Help me up.”
“Alright,” Celeste said, moving to Marcus and helping him off the bed. “Are you looking to use the restroom, Mr. Hale?”
“Yeah”
“So, you wanna hop on that wheelchair, and I push you there!”
Marcus glanced at the wheelchair, allowing Celeste to assist him in sitting down before she wheeled him to the bathroom.
Soon after, they emerged, and Celeste carefully helped him back to the bed.
Inadvertently, she spotted the wound peeking out from his abdomen and couldn’t help but take a second glance.
It seemed he was recovering pretty well, and this hospital was doing a great job with him. She didn’t need to worry too much.
“Mr. Hale, if you don’t need anything else, I’ll head out now. Get some rest.”
Marcus, sitting on the hospital bed, fixed her with a fiery gaze, his eyes locking onto hers, which he recognized all too well. “Got other patients to tend to be inquired
“Not at the moment”
“Then stay and take care of me”

was drawn to her eyes; seeing her felt like seeing the woman he adored.
Celeste was taken aback by Marcus’s request but eventually agreed. “Alright.”
She owed him her life. Though she saved him through surgery, that might not fully repay him, especially since he’d not fully recovered.
yet.
So, until he was back on his feet, she’d stick around, tending to him, to fully repay her debt.
Marcus leaned back on the bed, asking. Tim kinda hungry. Could you grab me some food?”
“Sure, what are you in the mood for?” Celeste pulled out her phone to jot it down.
Seeing this, Marcus, under her gaze, recited a phone number. “That’s my number. Save it and give me a ring”
Celeste did as told and was somewhat surprised when Marcus’s ringtone rang. “You’re using ‘Dream Chaser too?”
“You too!”
That tune
was her first composition, very special to her. Since its release, she’d been using it as her ringtone.
Surprised that Marcus would have the same choice, Celeste ended the call, confirming “Yeah, same ringtone here.”
Skeptical, Marcus called her back. When Dream Chaser‘ played, he was convinced. “Yeah, guess we do.
“It’s getting late. Il go prepare today’s lunch for you, Mr. Hale Celeste put away her phone.
“Okay.”
After Celeste had left, Marcus sat on the bed, playing Dream Chaser.
He closed his eyes, and his mind was filled with memories of that woman and her words.
“I thought I was going to spend the night here alone tonight, but here you are. But you look like you’re seriously injured. Are you you can leave here alive?“”
“Having you along seems like a burden, but it’s better to have company than to be alone.”
I’ll go find some medicine to treat your wound. Wait here for me and don’t dier”
“Marcus, it’s time to eat”
Sure
Suddenly, Isolde’s voice interrupted Marcus’s memories. Disturbed, he was somewhat displeased. He snapped back to reality and looked at Isolde, who brought him meals every day,
“I just hired a caregiver. From now on, she will take care of me and bring me meals. Except for your check–ups, you don’t need to come here anymore,” he said coldly.
Marcus, who had always disliked being taken care of, actually hired a caregiver, which was unprecedented.
Isolde was greatly shocked, asking. “Marcus, don’t you always prefer quiet, and don’t like being taken care of or disturbed? So why did you end up hiring a caregiver for yourself now?”
Hut Marcus only retorted sarcastically, “Why do I need to explain my actions to you?”
“Sorry, Marcus. I shouldn’t have said that. Have your meal,” Isolde replied awkwardly.
She was just curious, not expecting it would make him dislike her even more.
holde handed him the lunch she had personally made, but Marcus showed no intention of accepting it. “My caregiver has gone to prepare lunch for me, so you can take this meal back and eat it yourself”
hokle gripped the meal box tightly in her hand. Having been rejected by Marcus, she could only nod bitterly. “Alright.
“But before I leave, may I check your wounds again to see how they’ve healed?”
Marcus refused once more.
“Wesley already examined my wounds before you arrived, so there’s no need for you to check again. You
