The Alpha’s Borrowed Luna
Chapter 161
I woke to sunlight warming my face, momentarily disoriented as I reached across the bed to i
find Kaius’s side empty.
Sitting up, I spotted him by the window, shoulders rigid as he stared but at the pack grounds below. He must have sensed my movement because he turned, his amber eyes carefully watching my action to him. He stared intently, his gaze traveling over my entire body- lingering on my full breasts before settling on my eyes
“You might as well take a picture, it would last longer,” I said, trying to lighten the mood.
A ghost of a smile touched his lips. “I don’t want you to look away, enjoy the attention.”
I climbed out of bed, crossing the room to stand beside him. “Are you feeling better?”
“Yes.” His response was clipped, unconvincing.
We stood in silence for a moment, the distance between us feeling greater than the inches separating our bodies. Finally, he turned to me fully.
“What do you say we go for a run?”
The suggestion caught me off guard. “I thought you needed to go to work.”
I could skip work for a few hours, just to make it up to you for being so irrational last night.”
“You do have some ‘making up‘ to do,” I agreed, relief flooding through me at this glimpse of the old Kaius.
The forest welcomed us with dappled sunlight and the earthy scent of pine. As we reached a small clearing, Kaius turned to me with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“You want to play a game?”
“What kind of game?” I asked, intrigued by his playful mood.
“All you have to do is run as fast as you can. I’ll give you some head start. Don’t let me catch you.”
My heart quickened at the challenge. Since discovering my wolf, I’d been eager to test my limits, to explore this new part of myself.
“That sounds like fun,” I said, already stepping back.
“I’ll count to thirty.” His eyes gleamed with anticipation. “One… two”
I didn’t wait for three. Turning, I sprinted into the trees, feeling the familiar rush as my body responded to my will. The transformation came easier now–bones shifting, senses sharpening as my human form gave way to the wolf.
wolf On four paws, I raced through the forest, leaping over fallen logs and ducking under low branches. The world opened up to m senses–scents painting detailed pictures, sounds carrying for miles. Freedom surged through me with each bound.
I could sense Kaius behind me, still in human form but gaining ground with unnatural speed. Veering sharply right, I dove through a thicket, hoping to threw him off my trail. My heart hammered with exhilaration, not fear. This was play, not pursuit.
Or so I thought.
The forest fell suddenly, unnaturally silent. No birds sang, no small creatures rustled in the underbrush. I slowed, my instincts screaming a warning I couldn’t articulate.

Chapter 101
A presence loomed behind me: I whirled, expecting to see Kaiuss will form.
What stood there made my blood freeze.
Kaius–but not Kaius. His body was halfway between human and wolf a monstrous hybrid that nature had never intended. His limbe were elongated, joints bent at impossible angles. But it was his eyes that stopped my heart–completely black, devoid of any amber warmth or human recognition.
I shifted back to human form instinctively, some part of me believing that seeing me as myself might break through whatever had
taken hold of him.
“Kaius, I called, my voice barely above a whisper.
He tilted his head, studying me with those terrible black eyes. A growl rumbled from his throat–not the sound of a wolf, but something older, darker.
