Chapter 20
Claire took several deep breaths, trying to calm herself.
When she spoke again, her tone was steadier, though still cold and detached:
“Zane, I’m returning the words you once said to me: what’s past is past. I don’t love you anymore. The person I love now is Jackson, and he’s the one I want to marry.”
“If you can give me your blessing as a brother, I’ll appreciate it.
“If you can’t, then we can simply be strangers from now on.”

“Oh, and if you brought the locket with you, please return it to me now. We should try not to have any further contact.”
Zane realized Claire was serious, and his expression froze.
After a long moment, he pulled the locket from his pocket.
Claire took it and said simply: “Thank you.”
Then she closed the door.
Just as the door fully shut, she distinctly heard Zane say:
“Claire, you’re only deceiving yourself. I don’t believe you don’t have feelings for me
anymore.”
Claire didn’t take Zane’s words to heart.
After an uneventful weekend, she returned to school to continue her research project.
But the normally quiet research building had suddenly become noisy.
Claire, who had immersed herself in the lab, didn’t notice at first.
Not until someone knocked on the lab door did she reluctantly interrupt her experiment.

Chapter 20
“Senior, someone’s looking for you downstairs.”
The junior student outside the door looked at Claire with envy.
Claire was bewildered by this look.
She came to the ground floor of the research building, where she saw that the open space by the main entrance had been arranged with red roses in the shape of a heart.
Zane, dressed in a pristine white suit and holding a large bouquet of roses, gazed tenderly at Claire as she approached.
As if oblivious to Claire’s displeased expression, Zane continued:
“Claire, before you went abroad, you told me that if I accepted your confession, I should wear a white suit and bring roses to find you.”
“Now I’ve finally realized that the person I’ve always loved is you.”
“I know I’ve made many mistakes this past year, but rest assured, I’ll find ways to make up for my wrongdoings and treat you well.”
Claire looked at Zane, who resembled a ridiculous clown, and asked directly:
“So you want me to be your mistress? To become the object of your extramarital affair?”
Her words silenced the crowds who had been cheering nearby.
They all looked at Zane with disdain.
Zane paused slightly, hesitated for a few seconds, then spoke again:
“If you agree to be with me, I’ll immediately go back and divorce Emma.”
