Chapter 10
“If she wakes up, notify me immediately.”
With that, Evan grabbed his coat and headed for the door. ”
Prepare the car. I’m going to see my grandfather now.”
When I woke up, it was nearly nine o’clock.
Evan saw me coming downstairs but didn’t get up.
“Go eat something.”
“Have you eaten?”
“I have.”
After saying this, Evan turned his attention back to the newspaper in front of him.
I wasn’t sure if it was my imagination, but he didn’t look well.
He seemed exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes.
But I didn’t ask questions, just quietly sat down to eat.
Evan’s hand rested on his knee, discreetly massaging it.
Last night, he’d gone to see his grandfather,
Not only had he been struck with the family discipline stick over a dozen times, but he’d also been forced to kneel downstairs all night, only standing up at six in the morning.
Even with his strong physique, this kind of punishment was brutal.
Both his legs felt like they might give out.
But even if it crippled him, he’d willingly accept it.

I was sitting there, taking small bites of my fried egg.
My profile looked impossibly sweet and innocent.
Évan felt his heart melting like butter.
And now I was carrying his child.
Just thinking about it, his chest ached with a sweet, heavy warmth–like his heart was swelling so much it might burst right out of his ribs.
He wanted nothing more than to sweep Clara up right now, to make her his in every way
that mattered.
But he clamped down hard, swallowing the urge.
If he scared me again, I might run away.
Just like that night when I woke up and vanished without a trace.
Evan couldn’t bear to go through that again.
To watch the person he loved walk away from him.
But have no way to make her stay.
Evan took me to meet his grandfather.
The legendary figure who had once dominated the business world seemed to me just a
kind, gentle old man.
It was only after meeting his grandfather that I learned Evan had knelt for an entire night for my sake.
“This boy has always been proud, never bowing or yielding to anyone. In his twenty–seven years, this is the first time I’ve seen him like this.”
The old man sighed.
“I know that if I didn’t give my blessing, he would still fight ine to the end. That would only

damage our relationship. Better to let him have his way.‘
“Now that I’ve met you, I understand why he loves you.”
But I didn’t understand.
Evan and I had only connected because of that mistake that night.
I wasn’t naive enough to believe he fell in love with me after a one–night stand.
But regardless, my perception of Evan had completely transformed.
Leaving his grandfather’s study, I couldn’t help tugging gently at Evan’s sleeve.
“Does your leg still hurt?”
Evan dropped his gaze to my fingers clutching his sleeve, silent for a long beat before he
finally said,
“It’s better, but walking is still painful.”
“Did you put medicine on it?”
“I keep forgetting. I haven’t applied it on schedule.”
“Then I’ll remind you to apply medicine every day from now on.
The corner of Evan’s mouth seemed to curl up slightly.

Then–the second my fingers started to slip away, he flipped his hand and laced his fingers through mine instead,
“Okay. Remind me every day.”
But daily reminders eventually turned into me helping him apply medicine three times a
day.
I was only now realizing how skilled he was at pushing boundaries.
He even used his injuries to trick me into kissing him once.

Chapter 10
Looking at the man in front of me, I held his face–so handsome it made me dizzy–and looked into his eyes.
Deep in his obsidian eyes, there was a tiny, trembling reflection of me–no one else.
Just me.
Like I was the only thing that existed in all that endless black.
A sweetness spread through my heart, and I leaned forward to kiss his lips.
Evan’s fingers tangled in my thick hair, pulling me closer, deepening the kiss.
I gave birth to a daughter–a little girl with my eyes and mouth, but Evan’s eyebrows and
nose.
When our daughter turned one month old, we held a wedding ceremony on a beautiful island overseas.
Just before the wedding was about to begin, I unexpectedly received a call from Julian.
