Chapter 75 A Slap Across The Face
As Celeste sat up, she unintentionally woke Marcus, their eyes locking in the quiet room. She opened her mouth and said,” I’ve had enough sleep. It’s getting late. I should be going now.”
She turned to leave under his gaze, but just as she moved, Marcus stood up and grabbed her arm.
“You’re broke. Are you planning to walk home?”
She winced, realizing she had almost forgotten she was broke. She asked Marcus, “Can you lend me some money?” Marcus stood silently. Marcus thought, ‘Why can’t she let me take her home? Why does she have to leave on her own? “I’ll take you,” Marcus said. Celeste was about to protest, but he grabbed his jacket, slipped it on, and walked over to her before she could. “Let’s go.”
Celeste froze, her mind racing.
Celeste thought, ‘With Marcus here, I can’t go to the hospital. I can’t tell him about my relationship with Isolde, he might step in and handle things for me. I need to do revenge myself–it’s far more satisfying.‘
‘There’s no other choice. I’ll have to go with Marcus for now!
Just before they reached the ground floor, Marcus told Celeste to wait in the car momentarily, leaving her wondering where he was heading.
When he returned, he was carrying a large bundle of items. A closer look revealed they were all medications.
Celeste raised an eyebrow and asked, “Why did you buy so many medications?”
Marcus replied, “I wasn’t sure which medication would be best for… down there, so I had the pharmacist give me a box of each. When we get home, we can try them one by one?”
Celeste thought, ‘Try them one by one? Is he serious? Does he think I need all these medications?‘
Celeste reluctantly responded, “Mr. Hale, I have medication for that at home, so you can keep these for yourself.”
Marcus stared at her in disbelief. “You want me, a man, to keep a bag full of women’s medications?”
Celeste glanced at the feminine hygiene wash in the bag, then quickly snatched the medication from his hands. “Since you can’t use this, I might as well take it,” she said.
Marcus hummed in acknowledgment and led Celeste back to the apartment. Once they entered the elevator, she instinctively pressed the button for the eighth floor.
Marcus glanced at her. “Are you planning on taking me to the eighth floor to see Declan?”
Celeste paused momentarily before answering, “That wasn’t my intention.”
“Then you should’ve pressed seven,” Marcus replied. With a glance from Celeste, he quickly canceled her selection for the eighth floor and pressed the button for the seventh.
Celeste opened her mouth, but fell silent, her voice barely a whisper. “Are you serious about applying the medication for me?”
“Yes.”
“But I already told you I don’t need help. I can apply it myself.”
Marcus thought, ‘Does she think it’s easier to apply the medication herself? Once I’ve decided, I don’t change it that easily. “No matter what, I still think it’s better if I take responsibility for what I’ve caused,” he added firmly.
Celeste blinked, feeling speechless. She thought, ‘He is determined to take responsibility.’
Celeste’s face flushed with embarrassment, and with no other choice, she said to Marcus, “Even if you’re going to apply the medication for me, I still need to go upstairs to get my own medication, right?”
“Can’t you use the one I bought for you?”
Celeste looked down at the feminine wash in her hand. “This is for cleaning. Are you sure you want to use this on me?”
“Don’t we have other medication?”
- o. Using
Celeste thought, ‘Don’t even bring up the other medications! They all relate to feminine hygiene–washes, gels, and infection treatments. Mixing them all would only irritate, and it would hurt. The effectiveness is questionab‘ the one I make myself is better–it works everywhere and gets resulta

Celeste firmly said, “I still think mine would work better
Marcus replied, “Then I’ll go upstairs with you to get it. We’re already together, Since we’re already together, it won’t matter if
Declan misunderstands when he sees us.”
After Marcus spoke, Celeste’s eyes widened in shock as he pressed the button for the eighth floor.

Celeste thought, ‘If Marcus sees Declan, my secret identity as Celeste Huxley will be exposed. But then again, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he knows. Marcus knowing doesn’t change anything either. The problem is, I don’t want everyone to know we’re together! Wait, when did I agree to be with him? We just spent one night together–how did it turn into us being a couple? This is moving way too fast.‘
Just as the elevator reached the eighth floor, Celeste was about to say something to Marcus when she suddenly spotted Declan at the door.
Marcus spoke before Celeste could say anything, “Declan is Isolde’s brother. He’s probably here to see me about her. To avoid any trouble with Isolde finding me, I’ll stay down here. You go grab your medication and come back down.”
Celeste blinked in confusion, she was still processing his words when Marcus, aiming to avoid any unnecessary trouble, quickly took the elevator down. After he left, Celeste instinctively pulled a surgical mask from her bag and put it on. She thought, “If I can’t wear my regular mask, I’ll just use this one instead.”
As soon as she finished putting it on, Declan spotted her.
“Celeste! You came back? I thought you were dead out there!”
Hearing Declan’s harsh words, Celeste stepped forward and slapped him. “Speak to me properly!”
Declan’s cheek immediately turned bright red, and he raised his hand to cover his face as he looked at her. “You hit me again?”
“If you can’t learn to speak to me respectfully, then this slap will be the least of your problems, Celeste said coldly. “I’ll make sure you stay locked out and can’t get back inside.”
At her words, Declan’s expression shifted to one of feigned hurt. Never in his life had he been treated like this.
He lifted his hand from his bruised cheek, his voice soft and pitiful. “Celeste, you’re going too far. You’don’t give me money, you don’t feed me, you don’t even tell me the passcode to your house, and you ignore my calls. I’ve been starving for two days and a night, and when I finally yelled at you once, you slap me? Am I not even your brother anymore?”
‘If he doesn’t treat me like a sister, he’s not my brother!‘ Celeste thought, her frustration rising.
Celeste looked at him blankly, noticing his eyes were red and on the verge of tears. She suddenly felt a bit at a loss for what to do. She thought, ‘I just slapped him. Is he going to cry over that? He’s a grown man!‘
Annoyed, Celeste snapped, “Stop the tears. Don’t cry.”
“Ugh…” Declan sniffled, on the verge of passing out from hunger and exhaustion, and burst into tears.
In that moment, Celeste felt a bit helpless. She thought, ‘Did my slap hurt him that much?
Celeste opened the door, not bothering to say anything more. “Come in.”
Declan sniffled again and followed Celeste inside. She was hit with a visual shock as soon as she stepped through the door. She wondered, ‘Did a Husky attack my house?‘
