Nathaniel’s face instantly turned dark.
“Vivi, who’s in your house?”
Before I could answer, Ethan walked out wearing an apron and stood behind me.
“Nathaniel. Long time no see.”
My son frowned and asked, annoyed,
“Mom, who’s this guy?”
Ethan smirked and answered for me.
“He used to be your mom’s childhood friend. Now he’s her divorce attorney.”
My son puffed up his cheeks and glared at him.
“My mom and dad are not getting divorced.”
Nathaniel’s expression soured even more.
“Ethan, you’d better watch what you say.‘

“I’m not getting divorced from Vivianne. She loves me.”
“Don’t forget–Vivianne cut ties with you because of me.”
Ethan’s smile faded. His voice turned cold.
“People change, Nathaniel. You, of all people, should know that.”
“Or did you already forget your wife the moment some random woman showed up?”
That hit Nathaniel like a punch to the gut. He clenched his jaw, eyes burning like a lion

‘Ethan, you really think I can’t make a few calls and have you blacklisted from every firm
in New York?”
That was enough. I cut in.
‘That’s enough, Nathaniel. Don’t go there.”
Nathaniel looked at me like I’d stabbed him in the back.
‘You’re siding with him?”
It was probably the first time I’d ever stood up for another man in front of him.
And it clearly broke something inside him.
But I didn’t care anymore!
I’d heard these arguments, lived these scenes, too many times over the years while he played house with Isabella.
I didn’t want to argue. I turned and closed the door.
This time, Nathaniel didn’t stop me.
But as the door clicked shut, I thought I heard my son crying.
I closed my eyes, took a breath, and reopened them calm again.
“Sorry about that.”
I looked up at Ethan and forced a smile.
He didn’t say anything. Just reached out and ruffled my hair like he used to when we were
kids.

“Dinner’s ready.”

go well.
Nathaniel said he was too busy to attend and told us to reschedule.
I knew he wasn’t busy.
He was scared.
Scared that if he showed up, this divorce would actually become real.

If necessary, we’ll file a formal lawsuit.
On my way out of the café, I saw Nathaniel.
He was sitting alone at our old table, staring at the view we used to love.
