Chapter 20
The scales in his heart were finally tipping. Just then, a female voice cut in.
“Louis! My engagement party is tomorrow! Are you seriously going to abandon me and go find Cersei?”
It was Rachel. She’d come to talk some sense into Louis, but never expected to hear this.
Even though she was the one who refused to be with him, she now looked shocked and hurt with her eyes red.
“You’ve always said you love me. And now you’re going to skip my engagement party to go after Cersei?”
Seeing her, Louis’s heart snapped into place. He finally understood.
His sister was getting engaged tomorrow to a complete stranger.
And him? He’d taken 99 slaps for Rachel. He’d married and divorced Cersei for her.
Yet after all these years of obsession, she didn’t even have the courage to give up the Moore name to be with him–all while claiming she loved him.
For the first time, Louis realized he didn’t feel the same anymore.
In that moment, his mind was made up: he would find Cersei and tell her he truly regretted everything.
He looked coldly at Rachel.
“I’ve done enough for you. It’s just an engagement party, not a wedding. Doesn’t matter if I’m there or not.”
“I’m just your brother, not your husband.”
The bitter laugh that followed made Rachel’s face turn bright red.
“I thought you understood me, Louis! Even if we can’t be together, I still love you! Go find Cersei if you want, but not tomorrow! Please, come to my engagement party?”
Her voice was pleading, trying to coax him.
But Louis saw through it now. She didn’t really love him, yet couldn’t let go. And now she was stopping him from finding the person he truly loved.
He ignored Rachel’s pleas. His heart was all set on Cersei now.
Just as he was about to head out to the airport, Rachel grabbed his shirt, her voice cracking with tears.
“You’re too late, Louis.Cersei’s getting married–to her brother Harvey!”
The news hit Louis. He’d been wallowing this past month, ignoring everything happening in the world–Rachel’s engagement or other people’s news
But he never imagined that in just one short month, Cersei and Harvey’s relationship would progress this far.
He froze, then turned back.
“When’s their engagement party?”
Rachel pressed her lips together silently. Louis erupted in fury.
“WHEN IS IT?!”
Rachel flinched, answering through tears.
“Tomorrow…”

Chapter 20
No wonder she’d come, insisting he attend her engagement. This way, he’d miss his chance to win Cersei back forever.
He’d never realized his sister could be this manipulative. As he looked at her now, she seemed like a complete stranger.
Rachel finally broke down crying under his gaze.
“What’s wrong with what I did, Louis?! You always loved me most! Now you suddenly love Cersei–what about me? I don’t want you to leave me! Can’t things stay like they were before?”
Louis was done. He shook her off with cold indifference, not even caring when she fell to the floor.
For twenty years, he’d believed Rachel was the most important person in his life. He never imagined he could fall for someone else. But fate doesn’t play fair.
He booked the first flight to London. He had to win Cersei back and tell everyone he loved her.
After flying all night, Louis finally arrived just before Cersei’s engagement party began.
At the Blanchel mansion, Cersei had just finished dressing and was heading out when Louis burst through the door.
Everyone froze. Nobody expected Cersei’s ex–husband to show up.
Mr. and Mrs. Blanchel recovered first and smiled calmly.
“Louis, you’ve come to congratulate Cersei? Thank you for coming all this way.”
He’d run all the way there, out of breath. Seeing Cersei in her elegant dress but showing no emotion made his heart ache.
Forcing himself to hide his feelings, he smiled at her parents.
“Yes, I came overnight. Could I have a few minutes alone with Cersei?”
