Chapter 12
Maxwell’s POV.
How is that even possible? She can read my mind? This is unbelievable. What is she? One thing’s for sure–I’m relieved nothing happened between those two. The thought of it made my heart swell with unexpected joy. I had worried over nothing. She doesn’t want him. That much is clear.
She could have killed him if I hadn’t stepped in. She despises him. This can only mean one thing: she will reject him in the end. And I will make sure of it.
I stormed into my chambers, discarding my clothes hastily before stepping into the shower. The rush of water calmed my frayed nerves, and once I was dressed and refreshed, I stepped out. My guards greeted me with respectful nods, which I returned absentmindedly.
As I entered my office, I reached out to my Gamma, Zod, through the mind–link. His response was immediate.
“What’s the situation at the borders?” I asked, my tone firm.
“Your Majesty, the borders are secure now,” Zod reported. “But the damages to the Red Moon Pack and the Peace Water Pack are severe. They’ve lost most of their warriors, and some maidens have been taken.”
I frowned at the grim news. “Understood. Keep me updated on the progress. I want those girls rescued and returned to their packs as soon as possible.”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” he replied before I severed the link.
A knock at the door pulled my attention. I caught the familiar scent before he even spoke. Cross.
“Come in,” I said.
The door opened, and Cross stepped inside, bowing slightly. “Your Majesty.”
“Yes, Cross. Any updates?” I asked.
“The Alphas have arrived,” he informed me. “They’re waiting for you.”
I nodded thoughtfully. “I just spoke with Zod. The damages are worse than we
anticipated,” I said, rising from my seat.
“I know,” he replied, his voice tinged with concern. “What’s the plan?”
“For now, nothing. Our priority is rescuing the maidens and ensuring their safe return. I‘ Il decide our next steps during the meeting.”
He nodded in agreement. “Understood.”
“Let’s go meet them,” I said, and he led the way. As we walked through the corridors,

of my responsibilities.
The conference room door swung open as the guard noticed our approach. He greeted me with a respectful bow, and I responded with a curt nod.
As I stepped inside, the Alphas rose from their seats in unison. Without hesitation, made my way to the head of the table and took my seat.
I
“Your Majesty,” they all murmured in unison, bowing once more. I acknowledged them with another nod before they resumed their seats, while my Beta sat quietly beside me.
I deeply regret your loss,” I began, my voice steady but empathetic. “But I assure you, this will be the last time those intruders come anywhere near your packs.”
They nodded solemnly, exchanging whispers amongst themselves.
“Please,” I said, leaning forward slightly. “Speak freely. I want to know what’s on your minds.”
As expected, Mathias, the unofficial spokesperson for the group, cleared his throat and rose to speak.
“Your Majesty,” he said, bowing slightly. “We simply wish to understand how you plan to ensure that these intruders will never breach our borders again.”
Straightening my posture, I replied firmly, “I intend to deploy capable warriors to your
packs–ten for each border. They will be fully armed and prepared for anything.”
The room fell silent. Their expressions betrayed disbelief, as though they thought I must be joking. After all, sending seventy warriors away from the palace was no small gesture. But for once, I felt generous–perhaps because I had finally found my mate.
“Ten warriors per border?” Alpha Lorri muttered, his tone skeptical, I smirked, rising from my seat. They quickly followed suit.
“I, King Maxwell Lincoln, hereby decree that seventy Lycan warriors will be dispatched to protect the seven zones of Bomada. Let this be known across the kingdom. I have spoken.”
My word was law. The Alphas erupted into applause, their relief palpable. It seemed even I had surprised myself with this decision,
I glanced at my Beta, Cross, whose mouth hung slightly open in shock. But he smiled soon after, clearly pleased.
“Thank you, Your Majesty,” Mathias said on behalf of the others. “We never expected this. We know how powerful just two of your warriors can be, but seventy? That is far more than we dared to hope for. Your kindness humbles us.”
I gave a curt nod before excusing myself, leaving them in Cross’s capable hands. As I exited the palace, a sight stopped me in my tracks. Rosa was walking alongside Delilah, the cool breeze playfully tossing her hair as she tried to tame the unruly strands.

I stepped into the shadows, content to watch from a distance. They were engrossed in their conversation, unaware of my presence. There was no fear in my heart–Rosa already knew Delilah was my mate and would soon be their Luna.
Deciding to connect through the mind–link, I reached out to Rosa. She responded instantly.
“Your Majesty,” she greeted.
“How is she?” I asked, keeping my tone neutral.
“She’s stronger than you could imagine,” Rosa replied, her words easing my mind.
“Is there anything I should know?”
“Yes, Your Majesty. She wants to learn more about the kingdom. She believes the sooner she understands our ways, the better.”
Her response brought me a rare sense of peace. Delilah wasn’t resisting the mate
bond.
“Your Majesty,” Rosa added suddenly, her tone tinged with surprise. “She says she can hear you, even from here.”
I severed the link immediately.
Who exactly is Delilah? And how is she able to tap into my mind–link with Rosa?
