Maxwell
The early morning sun streamed through the floor–to–ceiling window of my bedroom, casting a golden glow across the room. I opened my eyes to the soft warmth, the world still quiet, still untouched. Beside me, Delilah snuggled deeper into my chest, her breathing steady and peaceful.
I stayed still for a moment, savoring the weight of her against me. Yesterday training had been chaotic, filled with uncertainties, but at this moment, she was here. Safe. Mine
The screen of my phone lit up as I reached for it. 7:00 AM. Delilah’s training with the Gamma was in an hour. I hesitated. She needed rest. The previous day had been exhausting, and I knew she had pushed herself beyond her limits.
Carefully, I shifted her head onto the pillow, making sure not to wake her. She murmured something incoherent but didn’t stir. A faint smile tugged at my lips before I slipped out from under the covers.
The bathroom was cool, the steam from the shower curling around me as I let the water wash away the last remnants of sleep. By the time I stepped out, dressed in a black turtleneck, dark jeans, and a brown leather jacket, my mind was sharper, more focused.
“Your Majesty, I’m downstairs, waiting for you.”
My sister’s voice echoed through our mind–link, and I froze for a second. Relief flooded through me. Finally, She was here. She would help make sense of everything that had been troubling me.
“Where have you been? I couldn’t reach you at all,” I questioned her immediately.
“It was necessary, brother. Some things had to be done before I returned. How is your mate?”
My gaze drifted back to the bed where Delilah slept, her electric–blue eyes hidden beneath heavy lashes.
“She’s fine. Still sleeping. I’ll be down soon.”
Cutting the link, I turned my attention back to her, my fingers brushing a strand of hair from her face. My body still craved her warmth, but we had a long day ahead. I leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
She stirred, her lashes fluttering, and when her eyes met mine, the familiar jolt of electricity ran through me.
“Good morning, my King.” Her voice was husky with sleep, and I had to resist the urge to pull her back into my
arms.
“Good morning, my Queen.” I smirked. “You’re almost late for training. Also, my sister is here.”
That woke her up instantly..
“Oh really?” She shot up, excitement flashing across her face. “Let me freshen up, and I’ll join you for breakfast.”
She disappeared into the bathroom, and I left the room, making my way downstairs.
Rowan was already seated at the dining table when I arrived, her presence as commanding as ever. I barely had time to sit before she spoke.
“I have news for you, brother.”
Cross and Rosa entered just then, joining us at the table.
“Good morning, Your Majesty. Your Highness,” they greeted.

Rowan inclined her head. “It’s been a while,” Rosa added. “We’ve been looking forward to your return.”
“What can I say?” Rowan said, a cryptic smile on her lips.’ve been searching for answers.”
I took a bite of toast, listening as they spoke. My mind, however, kept drifting back to last night. To Delilah. To the bond that had settled so deeply between us, it was beginning to feel like a second heartbeat.
Laughter and casual conversation filled the air, but I stayed quiet, only half–listening. Anything that didn’t involve my Queen held little interest for me.
And then, her scent.
Jasmine and lavender, soft yet intoxicating. I knew she was close before she even entered.
The door opened, and there she was.
Dressed in a black sports bra that clung to her like a second skin, paired with sleek yoga pants and blue sneakers, she looked effortlessly beautiful. Her hair was pulled into a high ponytail, exposing the delicate curve of her neck. The sunlight caught the warmth of her skin, making her glow.
My breath hitched. Goddess, how much more beautiful can she get?
Her eyes found Rowan, curiosity flashing in them. “Good morning, everyone. This must be the King’s sister?”
I stood, my hand instinctively settling on her waist. “Delilah, meet my elder sister, Rowan Lincoln.”
Delilah smiled warmly. “It’s a pleasure meeting you. I’ve heard about you.” Then, with a small smirk, she added, “And thanks for the compliment. I heard your thoughts.”
Rowan’s expression flickered with surprise. “Wow… it’s already happening?”
“We’ve met before,” Rowan continued, her tone softer now. “Though you were unconscious at the time.”
Delilah’s brows furrowed slightly, but she nodded.
“Sit,” Rowan gestured to the table. “Eat. We have a lot to discuss after your training.”
Delilah settled beside me, eating quietly before heading off with Rosa and Cross. The moment she was gone, Rowan turned back to me.
“There’s good news and bad news. Which do you want first?”
I exhaled, already bracing myself. “Bad news first.”
Rowan nodded. “Your mate must accept her second mate before her identity and abilities can be fully awakened.” She held my gaze, her voice steady. “Only she holds the key to saving us all from the catastrophe that is coming.”
I frowned. “That doesn’t sound like bad news.”
She leaned back, lips pressing into a thin line. “The bad news is that you, a Lycan King…will have to share your mate with another.”
The room felt colder.
Once, I would have considered this the ultimate betrayal. The idea of another man claiming Delilah, touching her, being bonded to her, it should have driven me mad.
But I had seen too much. The night those forces attacked, when Delilah had changed before my very eyes….she had become something else, something… beyond this world. And the ones hunting her were not ordinary. They wielded magic, the kind that had been long forgotten.

“I once thought that way,” I admitted, my voice quieter now. “As a selfish lover, the idea was unthinkable. But as a leader, as the protector of my people. I don’t care about my pride. If it means saving our kind, I will do what I must.”
Rowan watched me carefully. “You’re stronger than I thought, brother.”
“Tell me the good news.”
A small smile touched her lips. “Delilah is the key to unlocking the true glory of our kingdom. She’s more than just a Luna. She is power itself.”
A flicker of hope sparked in my chest, but it died as quickly as it came when she added…
“But if she refuses to accept Alpha Farrell as her second mate, we are all doomed.”
The breath left my lungs.
Delilah was the most stubborn woman I had ever met.
And I had a feeling she wasn’t going to accept this easily.
