Chapter 38 A Perfect Family?
Owen’s lips trembled uncontrollably as his gaze fixed on Camila’s mutilated shoulder, the blood oozing from the wound like a sharp blade stabbing into his heart.
His throat fell as though something were choking him. He tried to speak, but no words came. A profound, unbearable pain washed over him, leaving him feeling as if he couldn’t bear to exist anymore.
He had imagined their reunion countless times, thinking that despite everything they had gone through, they would somehow return to what they once were able to support each other in the end. But now everything had slipped beyond his control
He was terrified–terrified of facing the Camila before him, consumed by hatred, terrified of seeing the endless coldness in her eyes.
He couldn’t stay there any longer. He couldn’t face her. With great effort, he turned away, his steps unsteady and frantic, as if he were fleeing the room.
As Owen left, Camila felt like a deflated balloon, her rigid body suddenly losing its strength. She slowly fell backward.
“Miss Jackson” Hazel cried out, panic in her voice. “Doctor, help-
When Camila woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar room. She looked around at the soft, pink, princess–ike decor momentanly disoriented, unsure of where she was.
Suddenly, she sat up, a sharp pain tugging at her shoulder wound, causing her to gasp.
Once the pain subsided, she lifted her shirt to check. The wound had been treated, a white bandage wrapped around her shoulder, faintly stained with blood.
Camila got out of bed and walked toward the door. When she opened it, she realized she was back at the Jackson family. The room she had been in was Harry’s bedroom, though it had been redecorated in a princess style–a detail she couldn’t recall.
Her brows furrowed slightly as she glanced downstairs.
In the living room below, Arthur and Belinda, Harry, and Agnes were all seated on the sofa, along with another man who had a handsome face and noble air–William.
Agnes was the first to notice her standing on the second floor. Her face lit up with joy. “Camila, you’re finally awake”
At the sound of her voice, Camila’s expression turned icy.
She thought, ‘Awake? She had clearly been unconscious, with no memory of how she was discharged from the hospital or brought back here. But from Agnes’s words, it sounded like she had just been lazily sleeping.
Camila looked at Agnes coldly, a deep sense of disgust rising within her.
Agnes flinched, looking startled, and her eyes quickly filled with tears. “C–Camila, did I say something wrong?” Seeing this, Belinda rushed to pull Agnes into an embrace, patting her back to soothe her. When she looked up at Camila, there were no words, but her expression clearly reproached Camila, as though silently accusing her of bullying Agnes. Arthur, however, wasn’t so gentle. Without a second thought, he began to scold Camila. “How dare you glare at Agnes? You re over twenty now, but all you do is eat and sleep. When we brought you home yesterday, you were sleeping.
“You got home and went right back to sleep. And now, it’s nearly noon and you’re just waking up? What have you done with your life other than eat and sleep? How did I end up with such a useless daughter?”
Arthur’s harsh words came without restraint, completely disregarding the fact that there were guests in the room.
‘Eat and sleep? Camila thought, bitterly. “How laughable. He can’t even notice that his own daughter has been injured and unconscious, and yet he dares to insult me.‘
Camila had long seen through her family’s true nature, so their insults no longer affected her
She looked at Arthur, his face reddened with anger, but her expression remained emotionless. “Mr. Jackson, have you finished scolding me?” Camila’s voice was cold, her face unreadable.
Arthur was taken aback by her sudden question, left momentarily speechless. He just glared at her with wide, furious eyes, unable to respond.
Camila gave a faint, silent smirk and turned to

But then Arthur shouted after her, “Stop right there come on, me nice to talk. His voice carried an unmistakable authority, as if issuing an order.
She didn’t want to be anywhere near this fake, hypocritical family. The disgust rising in her made her want to escape from the suffocating space filled with insincerity.

She wanted to run as far away as possible. However, thinking of the 3 million dollars, she reluctantly gave in.
Slowly, she made her way downstairs and sat in front of the sofa, her cold gaze sweeping across everyone in the room. Arthur picked up his coffee cup, gently blowing on the surface before taking a sip. “You’re not a child anymore. Staying at home all the time isnt the sohjtion.
“Your mother and I have discussed it. The Campbell family in Northeville is one of the top aristocratic families. Marrying into their family would mean a life of luxury
“Even though your character is lacking, you’re still our daughter. As your parents, we still care about you. Your wedding gift will be substantial, don’t worry
At these words, William’s grip tightened around his cup. He thought, So this is what Arthur meant when he said they had a way to collaborate with the Campbell family. But this wasn’t what he had hoped for
A wave of frustration and discomfort surged inside him. He took a deep breath, drinking the coffee quickly to suppress the
growing unease
Belinda, wearing a warm smile, leaned forward, taking Camila’s hand and gently patting it. “Camila, your father and I will miss you terribly, but a daughter can’t stay at home forever. You’ll need to marry eventually
“While you’re still young, you can choose well. If you wait too long, you’ll be left with whatever is left over. The Campbell family is a prestigious family, much more prominent than ours.”
Camila subtly pulled her hand back, her gaze lowered, silent.
She thought, ‘A prestigious family? If they are really so perfect, why would they want me? You only see me as a tool to solidify the Jackson family’s power through marriage. You won’t let me refuse, and I have no reason to.”
Camila stayed silent, but Harry immediately reacted. “Dad, Mom, you want to marry Camila off to that Mr. Campbell? Why didn’t you discuss it with me first? I’m not okay with this.”
Arthur’s face darkened.
Belinda quickly intervened, trying to smooth things over. “Harry, stop being so dramatic.”
“I’m not being dramatic. That Mr. Campbell is difficult to deal with, and he…”
“Enough!” Arthur interrupted sharply, his eyes flashing with warning.
Harry clenched his fists. “Camila doesn’t even know him. She won’t agree to this.”
The conversation turned to Camila. All eyes were now on her.
Camila met Harry’s gaze without hesitation and said plainly, “I agree.” Her voice was clear and firm, resonating through the silent living room.
Arthur, Belinda, and Agnes’s faces lit up with relief and happiness. Harry, on the other hand, looked furious.
William, however, couldn’t take his eyes off Camila. His grip on the coffee cup tightened again.
With a sharp crack, his powerful hand crushed the cup. The glass cut into his palm, and blood began to drip onto the white carpet, staining it with deep red.
Agnes gasped and rushed to him. “William, you’re hurt! Hazel, get the first aid kit!”
But William seemed to feel nothing, his gaze still locked on Camila, sharp and intense.
