Seeing Emily’s tears well up at the mere mention of Camila’s name, Willian felt an unbearable pain deep in his heart.
On one hand, he couldn’t bring himself to believe that Camila–the girl he once thought was kind and intelligent–could be so cruel. On the other hand, his sister’s silent weeping was like a dagger twisting in his chest.
His gaze remained fixed on Emily’s tear–streaked face. Clenching his jaw, he forced out the words, “Emily, don’t be sad. I won’t let anyone hurt you again. Even though Camila has already spent five years in prison, it’s still not enough to atone for what she did. I… I will make sure you get justice”
Even as he spoke those words, his heart felt as if it were being torn in two
No. It wasn’t Camila. It was Agnes
Emily’s tears continued to stream down her face. She wished more than anything that she could speak–just a single word. Even opening her eyes would be enough.
But she was trapped in this unresponsive body, powerless to stop the misunderstanding from deepening
A few days passed, and finally, the rain in Sancho stopped.
Back in Northeville, Lindsey could no longer sit still. “Keira, is it still raining in Sancho?” she asked eagerly.
“No, the rain has stopped,” Keira replied with a knowing smile, recognizing Lindsey’s growing excitement
“Then let’s go to Sancho right away! If we leave now, we’ll arrive by noon, and I can see her this afternoon.” Lindsey’s anticipation grew as she spoke. She couldn’t wait to meet Camila–the girl who had managed to melt Giovani’s heart.
For someone like Giovani to fall in love, Camila must be an exceptionally sweet and well–mannered young lady. “Lindsey, our luggage has been packed for days. We can leave immediately, Keira said, already reaching out to support her. Without wasting another second, they set off.
The entire journey, Lindsey talked endlessly about Camila, a bright smile never leaving her face.
But the joy of the journey quickly turned to disappointment upon their arrival in Sancho–Lindsey was unwell due to the climate change.
At her age, such a long journey had taken a toll on her health
Keira frowned in concern. “Lindsey, should we call Giovani and have him pick you up?”
Lindsey, stubborn as always, waved her off. “No. What if his girlfriend comes along and sees me in this sickly state? I don’t want her to feel obligated to take care of me instead of spending time with Giovani.”
Keira was at a loss for words.
Lindsey added, “And what if she thinks Giovani is some mama’s boy and decides to break up with him? Then he’ll be single forever! You know how he is–if he loses this girl, he might never fall for anyone again. I finally have a future granddaughter- in–law, and I’m not letting her slip away.
Keira thought to herself, “That’s a bit of an exaggeration, isn’t it?”
Lindsey remained firm. “Let’s go to the hospital first. Once I’m feeling better, then we’ll call Giovani. I want to meet his girlfriend in the best possible condition.”
With that, Keira had no choice but to support Lindsey as they made their way to Mercy Hospital.
Throughout the journey, Lindsey kept blaming herself. “It’s all my fault–this frail old body of mine ruined my chance to meet Giovani’s girlfriend properly.”
Meanwhile, Camila had been enjoying a rare period of peace. Her head injury had healed enough for her to be discharged, but she had no intention of returning to that suffocating house. She was content to stay in the hospital for as long as possible.
Leaning against the bed, she stared blankly out the window, lost in thought.
Just then, two nurses walked in to change her bandages

“It’s a miracle.”
“I know, right? A vegetative patient waking up after five years? Unbelievable.”

“Yeah, though she’s conscious now,
she still can’t move
“But if she’s regained awareness, it’s only a matter of time before she fully recovers”
Hearing this Camila abruptly turned her head.
Startled, one nurse asked, “Did that hurt? Just bear with it–we’re almost done.”
Camila stared at them intently, her voice trembling. “The patient you’re talking about… is her name Emily?
“Huh? How did you know? the nurse replied.
It was true. Emily had regained consciousness.
A wave of emotions surged through Camila, Did this mean she could finally clear her name?
A sudden, overwhelming sense of relief washed over her, and she laughed. But as the laughter turned to tears, she couldn’t stop herself from sobbing.
The nurses exchanged nervous glances. “A–Are you okay?”
“I’m just happy,” Camila said between sniffles, Tm so happy for that patient.”
Although the nurses found her reaction odd, they didn’t press the matter. After finishing the bandage change, they left the
room
Camila’s tears kept falling. Her heart was a whirlwind of emotions.
Five years of wrongful imprisonment. Five years of suffering in silence.
She had endured endless torment, bearing the weight of a crime she didn’t commit
But now, Emily had regained awareness. It was like a beacon of light piercing through the darkness, offering her a sliver of hope.
Taking a deep breath, she made up her mind–she had to see Emily immediately.
As she got out of bed, Hazel walked in, carrying a thermos. “Miss Jackson, where are you going?”
Camila’s voice trembled with excitement. “Hazel, Emily is awake. She can prove that I didn’t push her down the stairs five years ago–it was Agnes.”
Hazel’s eyes widened. “Are you serious?
“Yes! The nurses just said so. I have to see her right now.”
Hazel hesitated. “But… you know how the Connor family feels about you because of this. If they see you going to Emily’s room now, they’ll assume you have bad intentions.”
Camila froze. In her excitement, she had completely overlooked that possibility.
Then, another thought struck her. If she knew, did Agnes know as well?
Emily’s testimony could clear Camila’s name–but for Agnes, it was a threat

Hazel saw the resolute fire in Camila’s eyes. Though she was worried, she nodded. “Then I’ll go with you.”
Camila sprinted through the hospital comidors.
Just as Camila reached the door of Emily’s hospital room, a man standing guard outside blocked her path,
The moment she saw his face, a deafening thunderclap seemed to explode in her mind because this man wasn’t just anyone–he was the Jackson family’s driver,
The same driver who had taken her to the auction last time.
And more importantly, he belonged to Agnes
Hazel had once told her that ever since Agnes started kindergarten, this man had been the one picking her up dropping her off
