Chapter 62 Emily, Don’t Cry
Camila trembled slightly at William’s furious roar, but she quickly steadied herself.
Emily had woken up–soon, she would be cleared of any murder charges.
Now, the ones who should be afraid weren’t her but Agnes, Harry, Owen, and William–the people who had wronged her. She was incredibly curious about their reactions once they learned the truth.
Camila straightened her back, standing taller than ever.
A faint, mocking smile played on her lips as she looked at William with amusement.
When their gazes met, William’s heart skipped a beat
In that moment, he realized–Camila had changed.
Her entire aura had undergone a complete transformation.
In the past, she had always cowered before him, like a mouse before a cat, trembling in fear.
But now, she dared to meet his gaze directly, even looking at him with derision–like she was staring at a complete failure. She stood beside Emily’s hospital bed, one hand holding Emily’s frail fingers.
Both women were emaciated, their complexions sickly pale, even the bruises around their necks eerily identical. For a fleeting second, William felt a strange sense of sympathy between them, as if they were both victims of the same cruel fate.
A deep, unexplainable fear crept into his heart. He didn’t want to think about why he was afraid or what exactly he feared.
It felt as if, once he figured it out, he would fall into an abyss with no return.
Forcing himself to suppress the turmoil in his chest, William tore his gaze away from Camila and signaled the doctor to examine Emily.
The room fell into a deathly silence.
While everyone focused on Emily, Camila’s sharp gaze remained locked on Agnes.
Agnes, now as pale as a sheet, trembled violently like a frightened bird.
Her mind screamed in panic. ‘Why didn’t Emily die? Why couldn’t she just die?!
It wasn’t just about pushing Emily down the stairs.
The real danger was that Emily had overheard the conversation between her and Arthur five years ago–every single word. If Emily spoke, neither she nor Arthur would escape the consequences
That was why she had to make sure Emily died.
While everyone was distracted, Agnes cautiously took a step toward the door, planning to warn Arthur and flee immediately. But just as she moved, Camila’s voice rang out, cold and taunting. “Miss Jackson, where are you going? Don’t you want to witness your best friend’s miraculous recovery?”
Agnes stiffened, terror flashing in her eyes.
Camila’s words drew everyone’s attention to her
Agnes’s face turned ghastly white, her panic and fear on full display.
Harry and Owen noticed something was off and cast doubtful glances at her.
Harry, concerned, asked, “Agnes, what’s wrong? You look terrible.”
Agnes wrung her hands, her gaze darting around anxiously. “I–I just don’t feel well…”
Owen stepped forward, gently supporting her. “If you’re unwell, I’ll take you to see a doctor.”
With that, he started leading her away.
“Stop” Camila’s sharp voice sliced through the air, making both Agnes and Owen flinch.
Owen frowned, displeased, about to lecture her when Camila cut him off coldly.
“There’s a doctor right here. Why go through the trouble of waiting in line outside?”
Her words left Owen speechless.

Just then, the doctor finished examining Emily and tumed to William. “Congratulations, Mr. Connor. Your sister’s near- death experience triggered a powerful survival instinct. Originally, she had only regained consciousness but still needed a long time to fully wake up.

“However, under extreme distress, her brain continuously sent resistance signals to her body, which forced her to regain full awareness sooner than expected”
The doctor continued, “That being said, if not for the immediate resuscitation, she would have suffocated to death.”
The simple explanation made everyone understand what had happened. Emily had been on the brink of death, her body too weak to fight back, yet her desperate will to live had forced her to wake up earlier than expected–only to find herself being strangled.
William exhaled in relief before turning back to Camila, his voice laced with anger. “Camila, do you have anything to say for yourself?”
But to his surprise, Camila laughed. “You’re asking the wrong person. You should be questioning Agnes” she said, her voice filled with amusement. “Oh, and by the way–Emily is alive because I saved her. No one wanted her to live more than I did.”
Hazel backed her up, adding, “Mr. Connor, while you were out fetching a doctor, it was Miss Jackson who desperately tried to resuscitate your sister. If you don’t believe me, ask Harry and Owen.”
William glanced at them. Both men looked deeply troubled.
Camila sneered. “Do you still think I was the one trying to kill Emily? If that were the case, why would I go to such lengthst to save her? The one who’s been hurting her all along is Agnes. You three idiots just let her play you like fools.”
Agnes stumbled backward in terror “No–it wasn’t me! Don’t listen to her lies!”
Camila scoffed. “Still trying to deny it? Why don’t we ask Emily?”
Ignoring Agnes’s panic, she stepped closer to the hospital bed, her voice softening as she bent down slightly. “Emily, it’s me, Camila. Do you recognize me?”
She was genuinely worried that Emily might have memory loss after being in a coma for five years..
Her sharp eyes studied Emily’s face closely, searching for any reaction.
And then, the moment Emily’s gaze met Camila’s, tears burst from her eyes like a broken dam. She sobbed uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face.
Her lips trembled as if she wanted to say something–so many things–but no words came out, only heart–wrenching sobs echoing through the room.
Camila froze.
This reaction… it didn’t seem like she had forgotten her.
But if she remembered her, why was she crying?
“Emily, stop crying. Tell me what happened, Camila said anxiously.
She wasn’t worried about Emily crying itself–she was worried about William misunderstanding, as always.
And sure enough, before she could even finish her thought, William’s furious voice rang out. “Camila! You scared Emily to tears, and you still have the audacity to pretend you didn’t do anything?”
With that, he grabbed her wrist and shoved her aside. “How long are you going to keep bullying her?”
Emily’s eyes widened as she watched William violently push Camila away. Her sobs grew even more desperate.
Yet William, blind to everything, only tightened his grip on Emily’s hand, his voice full of misplaced protectiveness: “Emily,
don’t be afraid. Just say what’s on your mind. As long as I’m here, Camila won’t dare to hurt you”
