Chapter 81
Every time Camila turned around, the three women in the kitchen quickly pretended to be super focused, afraid she’d catch them watching.
The atmosphere between Giovani and Camila was relaxed and happy.
“Mr. Campbell, if you’re free now, let’s go buy some thread,” Camila said. “Even though ‘Majestic Bloom‘ just needs the finishing touches, it’ll take at least another month to complete. I’ll try to finish it before Lindsey’s birthday celebration.”
Giovani nodded with a soft, affectionate smile. “Anything you say.”
Camila felt a bit embarrassed and glanced at him quickly. Seeing his calm expression, she let out a quiet sigh of relief. realizing she’d been overthinking things.
They both stood up and walked out together. Lindsey saw them and clapped her hands, bearning. “I knew it. Camila’s such a great girl–of course, Giovani would like her. Look at them. They’re hanging out together.”
Keira grinned, her face lighting up. “Exactly. I’ve never seen Mr. Campbell this close to any girl in years.”
Hazel felt genuinely happy for Camila. Camila had been in better spirits every day since she left the Jackson family, no longer as gloomy as she used to be.

Giovani cruised into the city at a leisurely pace. In no time, they pulled up to a quaint shop with a sign that read “Threaded Elegance.”
After he parked the car, he hopped out and opened Camila’s door, shielding her head with his hand as she stepped out. “We’re here,” he said, all polite–like.
Camila was a little surprised, but in a nice way. “Thanks,” she said, grinning.
As they entered the shop, it felt like walking into a cozy, old–timey sewing room. The place was filled with all sorts of needlework supplies. Shelves were lined with bright threads, pretty fabrics with cool patterns, tiny needles, and delicate embroidery hoops.
Camila’s eyes
went right to the dazzling display. She quietly made her way over and started picking out what she needed, her fingers gently touching the materials.
Giovani stayed close behind, watching her. Seeing her so focused, he felt a soft, warm feeling in his chest.
Camila picked up a few materials here and there, scrutinizing each one before dropping it into the shopping basket.
Giovani stood by, patient as ever. Whenever she needed something from a higher shelf, he’d stretch up and grab it for her. About thirty minutes in, Camila decided on the threads, needles, and other supplies she wanted.
They paid and headed out of the store. The sunlight hit them, warm and inviting, making everything feel just right. But the peaceful moment didn’t last long.
“Small world, running into you here, Mr. Campbell.” A voice cut through the tranquility.
Giovani glanced up to see William walking their way, his steps confident.
William was dressed to the nines in a perfectly tailored suit, his smile warm but with a hint of something unreadable in his eyes. He was talking to Giovani, but his gaze was fixed on Camila, who had her back to him.

The second Camila recognized the voice, she froze. Her hand shot out, clutching Giovani’s arm, and she looked up at him, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and unease.
Her cheeks drained of color, and she started trembling uncontrollably.
Giovani saw the fear in her eyes and remembered the information Turner had uncovered. He knew exactly what was scaring her and knew he had to act quickly.
William stepped closer, eyes fixed on Camila. The more he looked at her, the more she seemed familiar. Doubts filled his mind, but he knew Camila and Giovani likely had no connection, so he held back. He just wanted a closer look at her face.
Giovani noticed William’s intentions and immediately furrowed his brow. Without a second thought, he pulled Camila into his arms. She buried her face against his chest, clinging to him for comfort.
“Do you need something, Mr. Connor?” Giovani asked, his voice calm but distant.
William ignored Giovani’s cold tone and stood his ground. “Oh, nothing important. Just thought I’d say hello.” He glanced at Camila, raising an eyebrow with a hint of curiosity. “And who is this lady?”
Camila’s heart was racing like a jackhammer. She clutched the edge of her dress so tight that her knuckles turned white.
Giovani’s voice was steady. “My fiancée.”
Camila’s heart skipped a beat as she heard Giovani’s words. She was practically glued to Giovani, feeling his heartbeat against her chest. His steady rhythm somehow soothed her frantic pulse just a little.
The tension was suffocating, as if the air had turned heavy and still. The world seemed to hold its breath, leaving only the sound of their heartbeats echoing in the silence.
William’s smile wavered and his expression turned stiff.
Unwilling to give up, he scrutinized Camila from head to toe, the sense of familiarity growing stronger with each passing second. His curiosity deepened until he couldn’t resist introducing himself. “So, you’re Mr. Campbell’s fiancée. Nice to meet you. I’m William Connor.”
Camila’s body remained rigid as she clung to Giovani, too afraid to speak. She knew that the moment she opened her mouth, William would recognize her voice.
Giovani’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “She’s not feeling well, so she can’t say hello right now.” With that, he effortlessly scooped Camila into his arms.
Camila instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face deeply into his chest.
Giovani swiftly opened the car door in one swift motion.
William stepped forward, trying to get a clear look at the woman in Giovani’s arms. But Camila had buried her face tightly, leaving him no chance to see her.
In the next moment, Giovani gently placed Camila onto the back seat, his upper body leaning protectively over her.
The space between them was so close that their breaths intertwined. The warmth of his breath brushed against Camila’s neck, making her heart race uncontrollably.
Camila’s cheeks burned as her wide eyes darted nervously, filled with panic and unease.
Giovani lowered his head slightly, his lips close to her ear as he whispered softly, “Don’t worry. I’ve got you.”
His voice, gentle yet firm, carried a calming effect, gradually soothing the storm in Camila’s heart.

After speaking, Giovani straightened up, stepped out of the car, and shut the door with a decisive click. Turning to face William, his gaze turned icy. “Mr. Connor, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.” With that, he moved toward the driver’s seat.

William stared at the closed car door, frustration flickering in his eyes. The tinted windows blocked his view, but his instincts screamed that the woman inside was Camila.
Suddenly, he reached out and yanked the car door open.
