The car door was suddenly yanked open by William, and a blast of cold air rushed in, making Camila shrink back in fear.
William leaned in to get a clear look at the woman in the car. But before he could, Giovani’s fist hit his face, sending him stumbling back several steps. He steadied himself, touched his mouth, and saw blood on his fingertips.
As a member of the Connor family, the most prestigious household in Sancho, William was used to being treated with smiles and respect. Never in his life had he been punched in public.

Even though he knew Giovani was the heir of the Campbell family in Northeville–someone he couldn’t afford to provoke- being humiliated like this in front of others filled him with rage. Without thinking, he charged forward and threw a punch at Giovani.
Giovani didn’t back down and retaliated with equal force.
Camila clung to the car door, her knuckles turning white. She could only watch in horror as Giovani and William traded blows, the thuds of fists hitting flesh echoing like a relentless drumbeat in her ears.
Camila was frantic. ‘This is all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Mr. Campbell wouldn’t have been attacked,’ she thought to herself.
From the moment she first met Giovani, she could tell he was different from the typical heirs of wealthy families. He carried himself with a quiet elegance that set him apart.
He apologized when his cigarette smoke made her cough and never smoked around her again.
When she tried to end her life, he treated her to some wine worth 150 thousand. When she got alcohol poisoning, he rushed her to the hospital and covered the bills.
She didn’t think Giovani did all those things to get something from her. She had no money, no looks, and was always sick. There was nothing about her that could benefit him.
The only reason Giovani treated her so well was because he was a genuinely good man. Yet, this remarkable man had been hurt by William, that lunatic, all because of her.
Camila was drowning in guilt, and her hatred for William burned even stronger.
In prison, he had people make her life miserable. Even after her release, he refused to let her go.
He knew perfectly well that she wasn’t the one who turned Emily into a vegetative state, yet he kept coming after her. And now, he had the audacity to hurt Giovani right in front of her.
Camila’s mind was overwhelmed with flashes of her time with Giovani. Even though the fear of William loomed large, the fiery hatred surging within her gave her the strength to push past it.
Her eyes darted around the car in desperation until they landed on a wrench tucked in the corner. Without hesitation, she grabbed it, flung the car door open, and silently approached William from behind.
Just as William raised his hand to strike back, Camila swung the wrench with all her might, the impact landing on his head with a sickening thud.
William felt a blinding pain shoot through his skull. His vision darkened, and his body gave out as he collapsed heavily onto the ground.
Camila stood frozen, staring at William’s motionless body as blood began to pool around his head. Her senses snapped back into focus, and her entire body stiffened. Her hands trembled uncontrollably, and the wrench slipped from her grasp, hitting the ground with a hollow clang.

Her eyes were filled with terror. Her teeth chattered, and her lips were pale from sheer panic. Her legs felt like jelly, harely able to hold her up. If Giovani hadn’t reacted quickly to steady her, she would have collapsed right then and there
In the past, she hadn’t hesitated to confront the Jackson family with a knife in hand. Back then, she was driven by despair. ready to go down with them no matter the cost.
At that time, her life felt like an endless void–no future, no hope. She didn’t care about the consequences, no matter how dire, because she had nothing left to lose.
But now, everything had changed. She had discovered her talent for needle work, a skill that was not only valuable but also full of promise. Her future no longer seemed so bleak.
With her needle work, she could earn a living, rewrite her destiny, and give Hazel and Lucy a better life. When life offered hope, no one would willingly choose despair.
“Mr. Campbell, will… will I go to jail? I don’t want to go to jail…” Camila stammered.
Those five years in prison had left her with deep psychological scars. She would rather die than go back there again. Giovani’s voice was calm and steady, a source of reassurance. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of everything. Just get in the car
Camila nodded, her body trembling as she climbed into the car.
Giovani called for an ambulance and then stood quietly by William’s side, waiting.
Once the ambulance took William away, Giovani started the car and drove off with Camila.

The car slowly pulled into the garage of the Campbell residence, but Camila was still visibly shaken. Noticing her state, Giovani didn’t rush her. He stayed in the driver’s seat, quietly keeping her company.
After a long while, Camila finally managed to calm down a little. She turned to Giovani, her voice trembling. “Mr. Campbell, please don’t worry. If anything happens to William, I’ll take full responsibility. I promise I won’t cause you any trouble.”
Giovani met her anxious gaze and sighed softly. His tone was gentle and reassuring as he said, “I told you, don’t worry. I’ll handle everything.”
Tears streamed down Camila’s face. No one had ever said such comforting words to her before. Even if it was just to console her, it filled her heart with warmth and gratitude.
Not knowing how to comfort her further, Giovani awkwardly grabbed a few tissues from the box on the passenger seat and handed them to her, “Don’t cry. If Grandma sees your red eyes, she’ll start worrying.”
Camila’s sobs stopped abruptly as she thought of Lindsey’s kind and caring face. Lindsey always treated her like family, doting on her like a grandmother would. If Lindsey saw her crying, she would undoubtedly be concerned.
She quickly took the tissues Giovani offered, wiping away her tears and taking deep breaths to compose herself. She even managed a small smile for Giovani, though it was tinged with exhaustion and unease.
Seeing her like this, Giovani could tell her mind was still consumed with worry over William’s injury. He knew she wouldn’t be able to relax for the rest of the day unless she was assured of his safety.
With no other choice, Giovani called Turner and asked him to check on William’s condition at the hospital.
The two sat in silence, the atmosphere heavy and subdued. About fifteen minutes later, Turner called back, and Giovani put the call on speaker.

“Mr. Campbell, William only has a mild concussion. There’s no risk to his life,” Turner reported.
After hanging up, Giovani turned to Camila. “Now you can relax, right?”
Camila nodded, a hint of relief finally softening her expression. “Thank you, Mr. Campbell.
Giovani’s lips curved into a warm smile. “Let’s head inside.”
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Camila nodded again, and the two entered the estate one after the other.

The moment Lindsey saw Camila, her eyes lit up with joy. She pulled Camila aside, showering her with questions, clearly hoping her grandson would settle down with Camila soon and maybe even give her a chubby great–grandchild someday.
Camila’s face turned red from the questions, and she quickly forgot all about William. Meanwhile, Giovani headed straight to the study and made another call to Turner.
Turner was about to leave the hospital when Giovani’s words stopped him in his tracks. “Mr. Campbell, are you really serious about this?”
“Yes,” Giovani replied without hesitation, then hung up the call.
Turner stared at his phone, his lips twitching in disbelief. After all his years working for Giovani, this was definitely a first. William had it coming–messing with Mr. Campbell and the future Mrs. Campbell? He should be grateful humiliation was all he got,’ he thought.
