Chapter 10
As expected, I received Liam’s agreement message that evening.
We set a time to discuss the divorce and quickly finalized the legal procedures. Feeling guilty, Liam chose to walk away with nothing, leaving me with all the assets.
On the day of our divorce, as we stepped out of the civil affairs office, Amber sent Liam a massive bouquet of flowers.
“Congratulations, Liam, for finally breaking free!” she shouted, her voice loud enough to make it almost laughable.
I glanced at the time and couldn’t resist a jab. “Amber, congratulations on finally becoming the one who loves him the most.”
“Cut the sarcasm,” she snapped. “If it weren’t for you stirring up trouble, none of us would be in this mess.”
After that dinner gathering, Warren had cut ties with them, and Leo had gone abroad for his Ph.D. Now, only one person was left standing by their side, and that person was especially significant today.
While Amber was busy hugging Liam and taking commemorative photos, they were suddenly surrounded by a throng of reporters and onlookers, the crowd growing larger by the second.
Amber looked bewildered, not understanding what was happening. I pulled out my phone, opened my old video account, and shoved it right in her face.
“The hospital, the dinner, and now this, I recorded everything and posted it. After Warren abandoned you, my following shot through the roof. These people are here to see what a cheating scumbag and his mistress look like. Oh, and Amber… Samuel wanted me to pass along a message.”
Amber glared at me, seething with fury. “What now?!”
“Samuel says the fetus in your womb has miscarried again. He wants you to come in for a check-up as soon as possible to avoid complications. You know, the IVF baby you conceived with my ex-husband while we were still married.”
The crowd erupted in shock.
Samuel had been waiting in his car for me. I slipped away in the chaos.
Later, I moved to a different city with my son, bought a big house, and got him insurance.
I named him Jason.
I never told him how his father died saving Amber, pushing her out of the path of an oncoming truck, only to be crushed himself. I never mentioned how his father had begged to see us before he died and how I refused.
I only ever told him one thing: I was his mother, and I loved him more than anyone.
As for Samuel, he chose to continue his medical training in my city. We stayed friends, never crossing that line.
What finally pushed us forward was, ironically, Amber.
The year after Liam died saving her, she married Warren. But Warren found out she was cheating, killed her in a fit of rage, and then took his own life.
During that time, I kept dreaming about Amber. I’d call Samuel in the middle of the night just to hear his voice, needing it to fall asleep.
Then, when Jason was old enough to understand, he asked me, “Can Uncle Samuel be my dad?”
I said yes.
He was overjoyed.
