Chapter 22
I took the elevator up, and as the doors opened, a familiar figure came into view.
Nathan stood by the hallway window, his silhouette stark against the setting sun.
“You’re back too?” I asked, surprised.
“Too?”
“I mean… when did you get here?”
“Not long. About thirty minutes.”
“Why didn’t you call?”
“I did. You didn’t answer.”
Of course I’d been talking to Matthew then… I tried to slip past Nathan, then realized his vantage point would have given him a perfect view of my earlier conversation with his brother.
Well. He must have seen everything.
“Matthew was just returning my high school yearbook,” I offered carefully.
“Mm.” Nathan’s expression remained calm, but there was something stormy brewing beneath the surface.
I knew Matthew’s final desperate gesture would be hard to explain away. Sometimes explanations only make things worse, so I let it be.
Inside my apartment, Nathan’s carefully maintained composure finally shattered. His lips traced a burning path from my earlobe to my collarbone, leaving me breathless in the shadowy twilight.
“What… what happened to being the perfect gentleman?” I gasped.
“Just an act.”
“What?”
“I was afraid of scaring you away.”
His eyes met mine, dark with barely contained desire.
The controlled businessman was gone, replaced by something far more primal.

Chapter 22
“My arm’s still injured,” he murmured, his voice dropping to a commanding tone. “Take off your clothes
for me.”
His dark gaze never left mine as he settled back against the wall.
In the fading sunset, his expression held that perfect blend of control and barely restrained desire that made my pulse race.
“Be a good girl,” he whispered.
“Show me.”
