Chapter 2
Pierre’s POV
I put on my shorts and headed towards the door, “Where are you going?” Dora questioned and I turned to her with disgust.
“I’m giving you privacy to dress up and leave.”
“I don’t think I need privacy, I mean, after what we just did.”
“I might have been drunk, but I’m not stupid.”
“And as for your pay, see my mom. After all, it was her idea to do this.” With that, I slammed the door and headed for the balcony.
From there, I could oversee almost everything going on in the pack. My eyes fixed on the Beta’s chamber, Gemini’s house.
I let out a heavy sigh as scenes from that moment flooded back into my mind. I had known Gemini right from when she was a baby and I can attest to the fact that this was the most hurt I had ever seen her.
Gemini was like one of my father’s daughters and I loved their relationship so much that I decided to be a part of it.
But I guess today marks the end of all of that, Cause I doubt that after what happened, I would be able to look Gemini in the eyes again.
I could feel her pain from the matebond and it was unbearable. I should have just explained things to her instead of breaking her heart like that.
“You’re here, I’ve been looking for you everywhere.” Greta, my elder sister said as she pulled up behind me.
“Wo… Wo… Wo… Wait! Is that tears?”
I quickly wiped my eyes with the back of my palm, heading back inside to avoid a conversation with Greta.
“Dad or Gemini? Who are the tears for?”
“What do you want?” I went straight to the point.
“Pierre don’t tell me you still haven’t gotten over that Gemini girl?”
“I’m not discussing Gemini with you, Greta,” I warned, my tone firm.
But Greta wouldn’t back down.
“Herre, you’re the future Alpha. You can’t afford to be sentimental. Mother explained everything to me. The arrangement with Dora is crucial for the pack’s alliance.”
I clenched my fists, trying to contain my frustration.
“Mother has no right to meddle in my personal life.” So stupid of me to have let her trick me into doing this shit.
Greta’s expression turned cold.
“Mother only wants what’s best for this pack, Pierre. And Gemini isn’t it? She’s weak, and she doesn’t even have a wolf. Dora, on the other hand, has a powerful bloodline and connections.”
My anger boiled over.
“You don’t understand anything, Greta. Gemini may not be the strongest, but she has a good heart. And she deserves better than this.”
Greta’s eyes narrowed.
“You’re still stuck on her, aren’t you? Pierre, snap out of it! Gemini is just a childhood friend. You need to think about the pack’s future.”
I took a deep breath, trying to calm down.
“Leave me alone, Greta. I need time to think.”
Greta’s gaze lingered on me before she turned to leave.
“Pierre, don’t make a mistake that will cost us everything.”

Chapter 2
As she walked away, I felt the weight of my responsibilities crushing me.
The mate bond with Gemini still pulsed a constant reminder of my betrayal.
I wondered if I could ever make things right between us.
Or if it was already too late.
Just then, my phone buzzed with an incoming text from my mother.
“Pierre, we need to discuss the arrangements with Alpha Elvis (Dora’s father). Meet me in the study.”
My stomach churned with dread.
The fate of the pack, and my own heart, hung in the balance.
What would be the cost of my duty?
In the Moonrock pack, it was a tradition to appoint a new Alpha one month after the previous Alpha died. Prior to that, the five elders and the Luna would be the ones in charge of the decision–making.
But before I’m crowned, I have to reject my actual mate (Gemini) and mark my chosen mate (Dora) just as the elders and I had discussed.
It was evening the next day, and the town crier’s haunting howl echoed through the pack’s territory, summoning everyone to gather at the central
square.
People dropped their daily activities, rushing to join the growing crowd.
An air of anticipation and curiosity hung heavy.
Elder Thompson, a wise and aged member of the pack, stepped forward.
“Brothers and sisters, we gather here today to witness a solemn event,” he announced, his voice grave.
“A bond severing.” He continued, causing the crowd to begin murmuring.
Elder Thompson raised his hands, and the murmurs ceased.
“Pierre Wilson, son of Late Alpha Harvey, step forward.”
I emerged from the shadows, my heart heavy with the weight of my decision.
“Gemini Coleman, daughter of Beta Amelia, step forward.”.
Deep down, I wished Gemini wouldn’t obey the call, so I don’t have to reject her. But just then Gemini appeared, her eyes a little swollen.
! could see the disappointment and fury on Gavin’s face as he watched us. Gemini was the apple of his eye and he hated watching her cry. I knew that if not for my position in the pack, he would have beaten me to a pulp.
Elder Thompson’s gaze locked onto mine.
“Say the words, son.”
My voice cracked as I spoke.
“I, Pierre Wilson of Moonrock Pack reject you, Gemini Coleman of Moonrock Pack as my mate.”
Gemini struggled to keep it in, but she couldn’t stop the tears from falling onto her face. She gently damped her hanky on her cheeks before staring directly into my eyes like she had a plan to see through my soul.
She was in so much pain which automatically cost me pain too. I just couldn’t wait to get back to my room and drown myself in several bottles of whiskey.
The crowd held its collective breath.
Elder Thompson turned to Gemini, urging her to speak too.
“I, Gemini Coleman of Moonrock Pack…”
The words seemed to weigh heavily on her tongue. And for a second, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath and let down a stray tear before

staring back into my eyes.
The pain in her eyes made me realise how much I hated what I was doing.
“Go on,” Elder Thompson pressed.
“I accept your rejection.”
Of course, the bond did not just die by saying those words. I just lost that sense of ownership and the right to be possessive of her.
Elder Thompson gave the concluding remark “On this day, we witness the separation of Pierre Wilson, and Gemini Coleman. They would no longer be seen or addressed as mates, they would have a separate fate and the right to take up a chosen mate if it pleases either party.”
Next morning
I woke up to a throbbing headache, thanks to how many bottles of whiskey I downed. I couldn’t stop thinking about how fast things between Gemini and I changed.
I looked at myself in my broken washroom mirror and then down at my bandaged hand. That wasn’t enough pain compared to what I did to Gemini.
I freshened up, ready to start a life void of Gemini.
I wasn’t hungry so I skipped breakfast and headed towards my father’s office.
But before I could get in, I began to hear some familiar voices around the entrance of the Alpha’s Lair. Intrigued, I went to find out what the issue
was.
Beta Amelia Coleman, Gemini’s mother, stood at the entrance of the Lair, flanked by Gavin and two guards.
“Good morning, Your Majesty.” Beta Amelia greeted, a worried expression on her face.
“What’s going on here?”
“Gemini is missing,” Gavin announced furiously.
“What?” I blurted out in disbelief.
“We thought that maybe she returned to Canada for her graduation which would be holding in three days time, but her phone and luggage are in
er room. She couldn’t have left without them. We’ve searched everywhere we could think of, but she isn’t in any of those places.” Beta Amelia added, her voice laced with concern.
My heart skipped a beat.
“Gemini wouldn’t just leave without a word,” I said, a growing sense of unease creeping over me.
This is all my fault, I don’t think I can forgive myself if anything happens to her.
“I don’t mean to bother you, all I need is permission to take the search team.” Beta Amelia pleaded.
“Anything concerning Gemini can never be a bother,” I blurted out. “Things might not be going well between the two of us, but she is still a part of this pack.”
1 felt a sharp pain in my head which almost made me curse out loud. My face contorted into a pained expression.
“What’s the matter, your majesty?”
I knew it was the mate bond, but I wasn’t going to add to their worry.
“Direct the search team on what to do, I will be with you shortly.”
I closed my eyes, trying to reach Gemini through the mind link. But the connection was very weak, the pain persisted and the connection grew weaker. I became even more anxious.
Soon I lost connection completely, “Fuck!” I yelled as I stormed out of the house.
“Gemini please stay with me!” I cried, running towards the border like a madman.
