Nathan’s face turned ghost white the second he heard the voice.
He fumbled, didn’t even respond, just hung up in a panic.
He turned to me, stunned.
“What the hell’s going on? What did they mean by that?”
“You were in a car accident? When? Why didn’t I know?”
“Where the hell have you been for the past two weeks?”
Sarah’s face dropped too, clearly scared I was about to blow up her lies.
She quickly jumped in.
“Olivia, stop faking all this drama.”
“Nathan’s been going through hell lately.”
“Be a little more considerate, will you?”
“You just got back, can’t we all sit down and talk this through?”
“Don’t try to manipulate him with some fake tragedy.”
But Nathan cut her off, stone–faced.
“Olivia. What happened to your shoulder?”
“Where were you these past two weeks?”
“I’m still your husband. I deserve answers.”
”
Not for much longer.
I didn’t say a word.
Instead, I pushed myself off the floor and stared him down, ice in my eyes.
“What, losing your edge now?”
“Didn’t your precious Sarah dig up all the dirt already?”
“She had video of me, remember?”
“Stop pretending you care.”
“Where the hell were you when I actually needed you?”
“Now you wanna act like you give a damn? Please.”
“Spare me the performance.”
“I’ll have my lawyer send over the divorce papers.”
“I don’t want a damn thing–just my son.”
I turned to leave, but he grabbed my wrist.
Before he could say anything, I jerked away.

Chapter 6
I looked toward Liam.
He was trembling, hiding behind Sarah like I was some kind of monster.
It crushed me.
But I didn’t have the energy to deal with that now.
“Liam, sweetheart… Mommy will come get you in a few days, okay?”
My body was already on the verge of collapse from everything that happened and that kick didn’t help.
Sarah suddenly spoke up, her voice laced with fake concern.
“Need a ride, sis?”
“This place is a pain to get an Uber from.”
She pulled Nathan’s car keys out of her purse like it was no big deal.
I saw it–and laughed to myself.
Even now, she had to flaunt it.
“Save your kindness for Nathan. I’m good.”
