Chapter 118
Benjamin took his time looking at the screen. He looked over all the measurements and made sure the spine was straight. Next, he paid close attention to the beating heart and found that it, as well as the other organs, were seemingly perfect.
He let out a soft breath when everything looked good, and looked up with a smile. “Mackenna,” he said softly as she had her eyes tightly closed. “Come on, open your eyes and look up here at the monitor. She’s fine- everything looks great,” “Benjamin whispered.
Mackenna had four miscarriages in the past ten years, and where Benjamin couldn’t prove that they were caused by the mistreatment that she received at the hands of Derrik, he stood firm in his belief that the drugs he had given her had some long- lasting effects.
About eight years ago, Pandora and she ran into each other while outaround town. They got talking and Mackenna accompanied Pandora to the tattoo store Benjamin frequented. The couple had planned on getting matching tattoos on their left ring fingers.
It just so happened that Mackenna stayed back and got an impromptu tattoo of her own. She hit it off with the tattoo artist and got married the year after. And then, they came to see Benjamin because Mackenna had another miscarriage and they wanted to know if he could help them.
Benjamin discretely spoke to Pandora about it with Mackenna’s permission, and she agreed. Over the years, so many things had happened to surprise Benjamin, but their friendship was the biggest one of all.
Mackenna and Pandora became closer four years ago when Derrik died in prison. Of course, it was not known if he had harmed himself or if someone had taken matters into their own hands.
This caused his mother, Miriam to go off her already unstable condition. She had been placed in a state mental somehow managed to break out. Thankfully, she was caught trying to come to the place she thought Pandora and Benjamin still lived.

There was CCTV footage of her. She had a detailed plan to kill Pandora and had all of the things she needed to carry out. The DA charged her with escape and premeditated attempted murder. With her new charges added to those of her past, she was put back into prison. She was serving a life sentence in a maximum security, mental hospital, where she was in solitary confinement.
Due to her past escape, she was monitored by an ankle monitor twenty–four–seven, even behind bars.
“She’s really okay?” John, Mackenna’s husband, asked and Benjamin nodded.
“Yes, both mom and baby are fine.”
“Thanks, Dr. Parks,” he said as he held Mackenna’s head close to his chest.
“It’s my job,” he chuckled before clearing his throat. “I’ll give you both a few moments alone.” He walked out and washed his hands.
“Thank God,” Emily commented, letting out a long breath. ‘I don’t think I could handle going through the protocols for another miscarriage with them.”
He nodded at her, feeling the same exact way. It was the part of the job he hated the most, more so when it was the same family you were telling the sad news to yet again.
Emily joined Benjamin at the clinic as his main nurse six months after he left the hospital. She, too, had become sick of the behavior of the nurses and the way they gossiped nonstop.
Benjamin wrapped up his appointment with Mackenna and John, att setting their next appointment in two weeks time, tie couldn’t help but grin as he walked out of the clinic at the end of the day with Emily.
“You’re not looking forward to your time off, not even a little, are you?‘ she said with a full of her eyes.

“Yes!” he grinned broadly at her, making her shake her head at him.
*Have a nice vacation, Benjam. I’ll see you in two weeks.”
Benjamin got on his bike, waving at her before he drove off. When he got home, he put the motorcycle in the garage and went into the house. Immediately, he heard the sound of fighting and Pandora counting.
“What’s going on?” he asked sternly, and all four of his children turned to look at him. Jack and Micheal, who were both ten, pointed at Amy and Beth: their twin girls who were eight, but would turn nine on Pandora’s birthday and their anniversary. Meanwhile, the girls were both pointing at the boys.
“It’s them,” they all seemed to yell at the same time.
Benjamin looked at Pandora, who looked ready to kill them all, so he took charge. “Enough!” he barked and gave them the look that said ‘no more or else.‘ “Love?” he asked, directing Pandora’s attention back to him.
“All four of you go and sit on your chairs now, you’re all in time out,” she told them, pointing for them to move. She walked away after they all sat in their respective places and he followed her. As soon as they were in the kitchen, he pulled her her closely.
“It’s just been one of those days,” she sighed into his chest.
“Well, we have the next two weeks off for vacation, love.”

She looked up at him and grinned. “Yeah, I know, and I’ve been looking forward to that, and not just because when we get back, the kids go back to school… but yeah, that’s the biggest reason.”
He snorted and shook his head at her. “Does it feel like their summer vacation from school has lasted forever?” he asked in a calming voice. She took a deep breath and looked up at him and nodded with a frown. “I know they can be trying, but you already know when they go back to school, you’re going to miss them. Am I right?” he asked.
“Yeah,” she sighed and he cooed softly against her neck as he started to nibble on her soft skin. “I know I’m strange that way.”

Pandora hummed softly and he started to run his hands down her back. He shifted them under b
úp, enjoying the feel of her soft, silky skin.
“How was work?” she asked.
“Good,” he told her simply as he placed his lips on hers. He only got a few minutes of kissing and cuddling her, before she pulled
back.
“I need to finish making dinner. You can deal with your spawn.”
