“Of course not. He’s married,” she said with a nervous laugh, which everyone picked up on.[]
“Okay, spill,” Keira demanded.]
“During my exam, I-” she stopped talking.
“You what?” Keira prodded.[]
“I got aroused,” she whispered, her face hidden in her hands. She closed her eyes and dropped her eyes, her embarrassment building as the girls started to laugh.
“Do you think he could tell?” Sia asked after controlling her laughter.[]
“I am sure he did. He was down there.” She pointed downward. “And I was really wet.“]
“How wet are we talking?” Keira asked excitedly.
“I would have been a water slide if I got any wetter.” They laughed, making Pandora groan. “But he didn’t say anything. I am grateful
for that.”
Sia took hold of her hand and made her look. “Come on. A lot of women become turned on, more so during pregnancy. I am sure he has seen and dealt with that situation before. Don’t be embarrassed.“]
Pandora nodded, trying to feel better about the situation. “Anyway, it is better than drooling over twenty–year–old assistant teachers,”
she teased Keira.
Keira rolled her eyes. “I can’t help it if I hot teaching assistant is placed under me,” she interjected.[]
Pandora raised her brow at the way she said the word.[]
“My care. Nder my authority. Damn it. I just need to fill out his paperwork and write reports. The guy is hot but I am taken, remember?”
“You know what?” Sia perked up. “I know just the thing to get us perked up. Pandora, remember the steampunk artist whose work you were fascinated by? She has a show coming up and I got some for the three of us. From what I hear, a lot of hot men will assemble there. If not Keira, who is already taken, the two of us can feast our eyes on her predominantly male viewers, right?“]
She smiled deviously.
“Why are you leaving me out from sightseeing? Do you know much about her?” Keira asked.[]
“Just that she is our age and her name is Lexy. Oh, she is married to a doctor,” Sia said with a shrug. She pulled out the website for the show and passed it along to the other girls.
“She’s so pretty,” Keira smiled and Pandora’s eyes went to the picture of the artist. It was the same woman in the picture with her doctor.
“Her husband is my OBGYN,” Pandora informed.[]
“Of all the people,” Keira gasped.[]
Pandora felt guiltier about what had happened. “Do you think I should apologize at my next appointment?”
“What? No, leave that conversation alone, Pandora!” Keira hissed. “I don’t think it is a big deal, not unless you get turned on every time he touches you
“Don’t you dare wish that on me. I don’t trust the universe not to play such a cruel joke.“[]
Sia became the voice of reason. “Think of it this way. A person on a vegetarian diet gets offered a free stake. Of course, it’s enticing, but it is entirely on the person to decide if they bite or not. So, your doctor is the one who decides where he stands. He is the one who is married. He is the one who made the vows in front of everyone he knows and God. You owe his wife nothing. You, of all people, should know that, right?“[]
“I know it, but I feel differently. He is married and that means he is off–limits. I may not blame Mackenna for what happened, but she is not blameless. She knew Derrik was married and she could have walked away, making him choose,” Pandora argued.]
“Just like you did when you found out?“]
“I didn’t give him a choice. I threw him out as soon as I found out. I am pretty sure if Derrik was allowed to choose, he wouldn’t choose me.”
Keira sighed softly. “Pandora, I don’t think you made him cheat on you, so stop being so hard on yourself. You did the right thing by kicking him to the curb.” She paused again. “And you are right. Mackenna wanted him and she was relentless in her pursuit, too.“]
“I still say Derrik was the one who broke his voice and this is on both of them, but he still broke the vows between him and Pandora,” Sia said. “Just wait and see how it goes with your new doctor. If you think your attraction is becoming a problem, then we will find another OBGYN for you. Our priority is to have you comfortable throughout your pregnancy.“]
Pandora blew out a breath as the girls kept their eyes locked on her. “Okay.”
The rest of the night was spent laughing and watching movies. They fell asleep around two in the morning and slept well into the next afternoon. When they finally got up, they headed out for brunch at their favorite restaurant.[]
They were in the middle of a conversation when Pandora’s phone started ringing.
“It’s my dad,” she told them.
“Put it on speaker. It has been so long since I spoke to Mr. Leonard,” Sia said.
She clicked on the speaker button with a smile. “Hi, Dad, you’re on speaker,” she warned right away.
“You must be with your friends,” he said quickly, sounding odd.]
“Yes, I am.” Pandora frowned and looked at her friends. They must have picked up on his tone as well because they were frowning, too.
“Do they know that you had to call the cops on Derrik?“]
Pandora gulped when she heard the gasps.
“No, they didn’t,” she admitted. She shook her head at the girls, silently asking them not to say anything at that moment.]
“I can’t believe you never called me,” her dad carried on, sounding angry and upset.
“I didn’t want to worry you. And I got a restraining order against him. The officer who is dealing with the case handed it to him yesterday when he was released from jail.”
