Chapter 46
“Pee? What do you think I am?”
“Pregnant,” he stated nonchalantly. Pandora grumbled as she snatched the cup from him. By the time she walked back, Benjamin had set out a bunch of food and drinks on the table.
“What is all of this?” she asked, feeling a lot hungrier than she had been moments ago. The smell of food wafted in her direction, making her stomach grumble pitifully.
“Lunch,” Benjamin replied without looking at her.
“I didn’t know this was part of your services, Doctor Parks,” she chuckled.
“This is a special treatment reserved for patients I like!” Benjamin retorted with a wink before he took the cup from Pandora.
“You know… I am grateful for this and last night. But you don’t need to look after me,” she whispered. She was touched by his gesture. The sad fact was, Derrik had made her coffee every morning for all the years they were together. That was the only thing he had contributed to their relationship.
“Someone has to do it,” he insisted while he looked at the stick he put in the cup. “I need to take your blood pressure. You have some protein in your urine.”
“I don’t know what that means. Is that a bad thing?” she questioned, sitting down.
“It could be. We will need to keep a closer eye on you.”
Pandora swallowed, worried about her babies. Absentmindedly, she started to rub her belly. She closed her eyes and prayed silently: ‘Please, God. Don’t take them away from me.‘
“Pandora.”
Pandora opened her eyes slowly and found Benjamin looking at her. “I promise you… I will take care of all three of you. I will do everything in my power to see that all three of you are okay, but I’ll need your help.
“What do I need to do?” she asked eagerly.

“Eat more regularly… I am talking about every two hours.” Pandora bobbed her head quickly, urging him to continue. “You must reduce your stress levels, and pass tasks that cause you stress to others.” Pandora let out a long breath, knowing the latter one was, and would be harder for her.
“Lastly, the thing I see you fighting me the most about…” She closed her eyes, waiting for him to say what she knew he was going to say. “Less work. I would like you to only work between the hours of ten and four during the day and no more than Monday through Friday.”
Her eyes sprang open. “That is six hours of work a day. Thirty hours a week,” she grumbled. “If you want me to eat every two hours, that would cut away at my working time. I would be eating three meals a day and get a maximum of five hours of work done. That is unacceptable.”
“Pandora…” Benjamin started off softly but got cut off by Aron, who spoke over him.
“Yes, that will be arranged. I already have her maternity leave booked from May first of this year to May first of next year!”
“You what?” Pandora stuttered.
“You’ve been here years and have only ever taken two weeks off a year. You’re well overdue for some real time off.” Pandora stared at Aron with her mouth open and he just winked at her. “Now, Doctor, this girl is as stubborn as the day is long, so feel free to come by and let us know if she needs to start her maternity leave earlier.”
“Well in truth, I don’t expect her to carry the babies all the way to June. Right now I’m hoping to get her to at least the third week of May. So, she should be finishing up here on the twentieth of April. The demand came in so easily that Pandora was shocked.
“I will implement the change in schedule, don’t worry about that. Now, I will let the two of you to get back to lunch. Once it is over, could you make sure she gets to her car safely? After all, she worked really late last night and the night before.”
“Thank you, I will.” Benjamin smiled but it quickly dropped when he turned in her way. “He seems lovely,” he commented.
*Oh, now you can see me? For a minute, I wondered if I had disappeared by the way the two of you were behaving. Like I was not there.”
“Eat. Then I will take you to my office and I will administer another scan.” She stared at him. “No charge. It is on me, of course. And that is only if you eat properly.”
“You need to stop sweet–talking me,” she muttered as she placed food on her plate.
“This is considered sweet talking? Either your husband is more of an asshole than I first thought or you really lack attention skills.”
Pandora grunted in response, knowing well that her ex–husband was indeed the biggest asshole that ever walked on the beautiful earth. “I have never been one to gain the attention of men. Derrik was the only one that ever seemed interested in me.”
“You only ever dated Derrik?” Benjamin stuttered.
“It’s sad, isn’t it? But we started dating really early…” she trailed off. When she said it out loud, she realized how much time she had wasted on the man. All the opportunities she had missed.
“Pandora,” Benjamin gripped her hand and said. She gave him a weak smile before dropping her head.
“The food is really good,” she changed the topic, pointing at the food.
Benjamin, continued to scrutinize her, but she gave him a pleading look to move on. He sighed before nodding silently. “Are you done?” he questioned after she had eaten almost as much as he had.
“Yes,” she smiled, standing up to help clean. Once the extra food was packed away, Benjamin walked her to the car.
“I will meet you at my office, remember?”
“Of course, I remember. I get to see these two again,” she chirped contently as she rubbed her belly.
