Chapter 48
she called the man Nemo and she was sure it wasn’t his name. She was sure she would never get over that embarrassment.
“I should go and let you get to work. I don’t think that being the only patient could keep a doctor’s lifestyle going,” she joked to lighten the mood.
“Yeah, I need to see more patients or how will I heat my pool? Benjamin played along. ‘See you in a few days,” he said, giving her a pointed look.
“You will, more so if you keep feeding my fat ass.”
Benjamin rolled his eyes. “Make the appointment before you leave. I already have a slot set aside for you, so you just need to confirm at the front desk. That way, when we’re finished, I can take you out for dinner.” He paused as she made her way to the door. Before she could walk out, he made one last comment to put a smile on her face.
“And you don’t have a fat ass!”
Pandora moved around her kitchen, cleaning it. But a small squeaking sound stopped her. She glanced around but couldn’t see anything that could make the noise.
“What will I have tonight?” she sang as she opened the fridge and peered inside. She grabbed some vegetables and chicken, but the squeak came again and she turned her head in search of the source.
She shook it off and moved to her cutting her. First, she washed her veggies. One of the carrots ran away and rolled to the floor. Pandora slowly bent at the knee to pick it up. The squeak came once again, but this time the source of the sound was right in front of her.
She saw the small mouse staring at her.
“What are you doing here?” she asked. It kept staring at her before scampering off. “Why the hell is there a mouse in my kitchen?” she wondered out loud and looked around the floor.
Pandora felt fear creep up her spine. She gasped and clutched her heart when a huge rat appeared. She would have taken the small, cute one any day. The grotesque rat stopped and sat there, no shred of fear at facing such a big human.
“Scram, Pandora whimpered, waving her hand at it. She picked up the wooden spoon and threw down near the rat, making it move away. “I have a mouse and a rat? I am not cooking anything in here,” she carried on, picking up her cell and running to her living room where she stood on the sofa.
“Ron speaking.”
“Ron, I need you,” Pandora muttered, her eyes fixed in the direction of the kitchen.
“Every woman needs me, Pandora, but what is it that you need me for?” Ron chuckled at her.
“I have a cute little mouse and a huge ugly rat that took up illegal residence in my kitchen, and I’m starving, she told him in one breath.
“You want me to come and cook them?”
Pandora closed her eyes,
flipping him off in her mind. “No, come and get them out of here for me, and bring me some food to eat with you. Oh, and hurry!”
Ron snorted, but he was cut off by Keira. “He is on his way, Pandora,” she said softly to her.
“Thank you, tell him to use his key, my feet aren’t leaving this sofa until he is here.”
“No problem, you want to stay at our place tonight?”
“No, I am okay. Just…” she stopped, letting out a dramatic sigh. “These past few months, it feels as if it’s one thing after another with this house.” She let out a soft breath. “Keira, I had some jewelry missing: my grandma’s necklace set. I feel as if I am losing my mind. Yesterday, I stopped off at the store, and I didn’t get milk because I was sure there was a full carton. When I got home there was none, so I went back out, only for the carton to reappear in my fridge when I came home with another one?”
That does sound odd, I’ll call Sia and we’ll have a girls‘ night in. We’ll all come over and have a search party and sleepover. We’ll get the house sorted, watch movies, and have girlie talks. Don’t worry, Pandora, we’ll find your grandma’s jewelry.”
Pandora smiled, feeling grateful. At least she had some damned good friends. “You sure? What if the rat wants to stay?”
“Pandora, my friend, I stayed there when Derrik was with you, and let’s face it; no one is as big of a rat as he is!”

Half an hour later, her front door opened.
Honey, I’m home,” Ron sang as he walked in with his hands full of bags. “You eat, me catch animal.”
Pandora snorted at the caveman voice he was using.
“Me go bang–bang,” he said, bringing out a long bat.
“Ron,” Pandora put on a warning tone. “I just want them out, not dead.”
Ron swung the bat down and then leaned on it. “This coming from the girl that is currently eating a cow?” he accused.
Pandora waved him off and he chuckled as he made his way to her kitchen. She started to eat when there was a huge crash. “I will deal with that later. I will die if I don’t eat now,” she reminded herself as another crash happened in the distance.
“Hi, Milton,” Pandora smiled as
he walked into her home. “This is probably nothing but…” she trailed off, and he just winked at her.
“Why don’t you tell me what has been happening?”
She let out a soft groan, knowing that she was about to sound like a crazy pregnant lady. “I think some of my belonging are being tampered with and are missing. I have got jewelry that is missing but I can’t work out how that could be. And there is also the fact that food, milk, and things like that keep disappearing and showing up in odd places.”
