He Ran After Her, I Ran From Him 1

He Ran After Her, I Ran From Him 1

Chapter 1

I’d been married for four years when my husband’s mistress ran off.

All she left behind was a note:

“Sorry, I’m eloping with my bestie. Bye-bye!”

The man who’d always prided himself on never being swayed by a woman completely lost his mind.

For three whole months, he put on a public circus, desperately chasing after her while I became the butt of every joke on social media.

Eventually, he dragged her back.

She showed up at my place, pretending to be all torn up, letting out a dramatic sigh.

“I really don’t want to ruin your marriage… but what can I do? Alexander’s just so into me.”

Then she tilted her head and added,

“Maybe you should just step aside?”

The old me would’ve exploded, angry, humiliated, ready to fight for my pride.

But this time?

I genuinely didn’t care anymore.

Day seven.

Seven days after finding his mistress, Alexander finally came home.

He paused in the doorway when he saw me sitting at the dining table.

A flicker of surprise crossed his face.

“It’s late. You’re still awake?”

But just as quickly, that look disappeared, replaced by the usual cold impatience.

“Alright, what now? Here to start another fight?”

Ever since his little darling ran off, he’d turned the entire city upside down looking for her.

The headlines, the gossip, the fireworks show that lit up the sky for seven nights straight,

Everyone knew Alexander Morgan was in love.

Just not with his wife.

I had become the biggest joke on the internet.

And ever since, every word between us had turned into a fight.

But this time, I didn’t argue.

I didn’t ask why he had to put on such a grand, ridiculous display of affection.

I didn’t ask why he had to shred my dignity in front of the whole world.

I just looked at the lipstick smudge on his collar and said quietly,

“I got you something.”

He froze.

His eyes flicked to the cold dishes on the table. Then, as if something finally clicked, he softened his tone.

“Shit… right. Our anniversary.”

A pause.

“I’ll make it up to you later. I’ll get you something nice.”

He even walked over, as if trying to show a bit of affection. Like he remembered how to act like a husband again.

But the moment I smelled the strong perfume on his shirt, my stomach turned. I instinctively turned my face away.

His brows knitted together in frustration.

“Of course. Here we go again.”

He scoffed and walked off.

“I’m taking a shower.”

I sat there, staring at the untouched gift box on the table.

The silence pressed in like a weight.

Then I stood and followed him upstairs.

His phone was charging on the dresser. The screen kept lighting up, message after message.

She hadn’t even waited an hour.

[Miss me already 😘]

[Ughhh you animal. Seven days and nights?? I can’t even walk!]

[So what’re you gonna do about it, hmm?]

[You better dream of me tonight 💋]

The heart I thought had already gone numb… clenched.

Then came the ache, slow and bitter, spreading through my chest, my limbs, my entire body.

And then,

I felt it.

A stare.

I looked up sharply.

Alexander was leaning against the doorway, arms crossed, a cold smirk tugging at his lips.

“Had enough of the show?”

His voice was laced with mockery.

“Come on, Mrs. Morgan. Don’t tell me you’re still not used to this.”
