Chapter 2 Dr. King
It was a face that felt oddly familiar. Just as Celeste was trying to piece it together, the man spoke up. “Missy, I’ve come to take you home as instructed by your parents.”
That rang a bell. Celeste remembered him as the guy her real parents had sent to pick her up from the Sinclair family three months ago.
Back then, when Logan’s leukemia had taken a turn for the worse, she had chosen to stay and asked him to come back in three months instead. Today was the day, and sure enough, he was right on schedule.
Evan Holt stepped out of the car and approached her, opening the door with a polite expression. “Missy, please hop in.” Celeste took a moment to admire the Rolls Royce Corniche in front of her–an exclusive car that was no longer made. When they first sold, they went for dozens of millions. Now, they were worth even more.
It surprised her, especially since the Sinclair family had said her biological parents were broke. Clearly, they weren’t entirely accurate about that.
Shaking off her thoughts, Celeste climbed into the car under the man’s watchful eye. She had been planning to visit Logan in the hospital first before heading back to her biological parents‘ home. With someone here to pick her up now, it felt natural to go along with it.
Eleanor and Chloe spotted Celeste getting into a car and decided to follow her. They didn’t know much about the car–only that it was an old clunker.
Eleanor remarked, “Looks like Celeste’s biological parents aren’t doing so well. That car doesn’t even have a decal. I wonder how they ended up with a used car that nobody else wanted.”
Chloe pretended to be concerned and asked, “Do you think Celeste will have a tough time when she goes back to her biological parents?”
Eleanor gently touched Chloe’s face and said, “Chloe, you’re being way too nice. She’s been bullying and blackmailing you, and you’re still worried about her? Seriously, she doesn’t deserve your concern.”
Chloe kept her cool and let out a dry laugh. From the start, she hadn’t wanted to deal with Celeste at all.
Now, she was just waiting for Celeste to go back to her birth parents so she could see Celeste experience the same struggles she had faced before.
Celeste had no idea that Chloe and Eleanor had been talking about her at home. Evan had brought her to the hospital. During the twenty years in the Sinclair family, Logan was the only one who had truly been nice to her. He was the only person she really considered family, so saying goodbye to him when it was time to leave felt natural.
As she entered the hospital room, Logan and his doctor, Adrian Shore, both looked at her.
Logan was lounging on the couch in a hospital gown and gold–rimmed glasses. Although he looked a bit pale and drained from his illness, he still had that handsome charm.
When Celeste walked in, Logan stood up and came over to her. “I thought you had plans today. Why did you have time to swing by?”
“I finished up my work and wanted to check in on you. How are you feeling?” Celeste asked.
Logan replied with a warm smile, “I just had my checkup, and Dr. Shore said I’m basically all better now. They’ll have me out of here in a couple of days.
“I really can’t thank Dr. Shore enough–he’s basically a miracle worker for developing this leukemia drug.”
Adrian raised an eyebrow, surprised by the praise. Deep down, he knew that the real mastermind behind the leukemia medication was Celeste, not him. He had just been following her lead.
Adrian gave a shy smile and stepped out, leaving Celeste and Logan some much–needed alone time.
Once he was gone, Celeste plopped down next to Logan, and they chatted for a while until the nurse came in for his last checkup.
Logan gently patted Celeste’s head and said, “Just hang tight for a moment. I’ll be right back after this quick check.” Celeste smiled and nodded, watching him head out of the room.
As soon as he was out the door, Adrian rushed over, panting a bit. “I’m so glad you’re still here! Come on, we need to help save a patient!”
Without waiting for Celeste to respond, he grabbed her arm and pulled her straight to the VIP ward on the top floor.
This floor was usually reserved for the most important patients. When they arrived, a group of specialists was nothored

around a man lying in the hospital bert, desperately trying to resuscitate him.
One of the doctors broke the tension by saying, “Mr. Hale’s condition is stable for now?
“But he’s in really rough shape. If we don’t operate soon, there’s no telling if he’ll make it through the next round of treatment,” another doctor pointed out
“Mr. Hale’s lungs and heart are in bad shape. Treating both at the same time is really tough. Only Dr. Wesley Paige can handle something like this in the whole medical field, and he’s on his way, but who knows if Mr. Hale can wait that long?
Celeste froze at the name in Ravenshire, No one could be called Mr. Hale but Marcus Hale, the president of Hale Group. Feeling anxious to confirm the identity of the guy in the hospital bed, Celeste moved closer and looked at Marcus, who was unconscious and hooked up to a bunch of tubes.
Sure enough, it was him. The guy who saved her life after that car accident last year and even gave her a blood transfusion and helped cover her hospital bills
As she watched the heart monitor beep slowly, she realized he was on the brink of death. If she didn’t act now, he wouldn’t make it.
Celeste faced the specialists with a resolute look, “We can’t wait for Wesley, Get the operating room ready. I’m going to handle the surgery to fix his heart and lungs.”
The specialists merely shot her a quick glance, then resumed their watch over Marcus, completely ignoring her. They had zero confidence that this young girl could save him.
After all, Marcus was the sole heir to the Hale family, and if something went wrong, the whole hospital would be in serious trouble. They weren’t about to risk their jobs by backing her up.
“Beep beep beep
Just as everyone froze, the EKG for Marcus–who was lying unconscious on the bed–flared to life with an alarming sound. A group of specialists rushed in to try and resuscitate him again.
“Give Mr. Hale a strong heart injection, now!” someone shouted.
The medical team scrambled, and Celeste watched anxiously, her concern for Marcus palpable.
Turning to Adrian, who was right there beside her, she said, “Get the operating room ready. I need to operate on Marcus immediately
“On it” Adrian replied quickly.
He had seen Celeste work miracles before–like the time she brought someone back to life a year ago and the incredible leukemia cure she developed just three months ago,
He trusted her completely, and the thought of her being the one to save Marcus gave him hope.
After Adrian dashed off, Celeste pulled a silver needle out of her bag, pushed past the specialists, and deftly inserted it into Marcus to stabilize his heartbeat.
The team watching her gasped and shouted, “Who do you think you are? Get out of here! You’re only getting in the way, and
if anything happens to Mr. Hale, you’ll be in big trouble!”
Just as they moved to grab her, Marcus’s heartbeat suddenly steadied. Everyone froze, hands suspended in mid–air.
Celeste put the needle away and looked at them with fierce determination. “You all are well aware that Marcus isn’t just anyone. Don’t stop me from saving him. If he dies, you’ll all face serious consequences!”
At that moment, she exuded an energy that felt far beyond her twenty years. The specialists exchanged stunned looks, clearly shaken by her confidence.
“What makes you think that letting you treat Mr. Hale will actually save him?” one of them challenged.
Just because I’m Dr. King: she shot back, standing her ground.
