Chapter 5 Almost Found Her
Chapter 5 Almost Found Her
“I can just nap in the car,” Celeste insisted.
Amara couldn’t ignore Celeste’s insistence, so she took her to the hospital.
When they arrived, they unexpectedly ran into Marcus, who had just been transferred from Kingston. He looked pale and was being escorted to the VIP ward by a small group of people.
A wave of concern washed over Amara. ‘He just had surgery and shouldn’t be moving around like this. Seriously, Wesley is terrible at taking care of people, she thought.
After Marcus was wheeled away, Celeste followed Amara to Declan’s ward. Declan was freshly resuscitated and still in a coma in the ICU, while Rafferty kept a close watch over him, dressed in a sterile gown.
Amara and Celeste changed into sterile gowns before they entered the room. Rafferty, hearing the commotion, looked up at them both, clearly exhausted.
But the moment he spotted Celeste, his expression changed completely. He slowly got up from his chair, tears welling in his scarlet eyes. “You’re Celeste?”
Celeste nodded, and Rafferty shakily reached out toward her mask. “You’re all grown up. I’m so sorry, Celeste. Your mom and I searched for you for twenty years to bring you back. Do you ever hate us?”
It had all been an accident, so she didn’t hold any resentment. “No.”
Rafferty’s shoulders seemed to relax a bit with her answer, and he wiped the tears from his face. “Come on over and sit down.”
He tried to guide her to the couch, but she shook her head. “I want to check on Declan first.”
Celeste stepped up to Declan’s bedside, took his hand, and felt for his pulse. “His heartbeat isn’t quite right.”
She pulled out a pill from her bag and placed it in his mouth. “This is a heart protection pill I developed. It should give his heart a little support for now.
“But honestly, his condition is pretty serious. I’ll need to create a proper treatment plan to help him recover.”
Rafferty and Amara were stunned when they heard her. They had dug into her background before, trying to figure out how she had lived in the Sinclair family all these years and what kind of person she had become.
What they discovered shocked them: Celeste had become a punk with a lack of education. She was getting terrible grades, liked to pick fights, and partied hard with smoking and drinking.
It was hard for them to believe their daughter could be like that. They didn’t want to accept it, but the evidence was right in front of them.
However, after hearing Celeste’s words, a light bulb went off. They realized there must have been a mix–up in the investigation.
This uneducated person they read about couldn’t be their daughter, who was clearly skilled in medicine. She actually had a talent for curing heart disease.
Rafferty snapped out of his shock first and asked, “So, is the medicine you mentioned the kind that will cure your brother, or is it just a stopgap?”
“Of course, it’s the one that will cure him,” Celeste replied confidently.
Amara was taken aback. “Wait, you actually know how to develop drugs that can fix heart disease?”
“Yes! Just give me three days, and I can have it ready,” Celeste said, pulling out a small bottle of pills from her bag.
She handed it to Amara. “These are heart pills. Give Declan one a day to keep him alive until I’m back.”
Amara frowned and asked, “What do you mean? Where are you going?”
“I’m heading to the research lab to work on this,” Celeste explained. Whenever she got into her research zone, she would disappear into the lab and wouldn’t come out until she was done.
With that, Celeste borrowed the hospital phone and called Wesley. “Hey, I’m at the hospital right now, and I need your research lab to develop a medicine for heart disease.”
Since she had worked with Wesley before, she knew he had the setup she needed.
As soon as he heard her request, he agreed without hesitation and gave her the lab access code so she could get right to
work.
Celeste, who had just gotten the code, skipped the research lab and headed straight to Marcus‘ ward instead.
When she walked in, she found him lying alone in a hospital bed, hooked up to oxygen. Wearing her sterile gown, she approached him, took off her mask, and put on a mouth cover.

As she gently lifted the covers to check his wounds, she let out a sigh of relief when she saw he was okay.
“Marcus, you saved my life a year ago, and I just returned the favor. So, let’s call it even, okay? From now on, we owe each other nothing,” she said, trying to keep it light.
Marcus slowly blinked his eyes open, struggling to shake off the haze. Everything looked blurry, and it took a moment for him to focus on Celeste.
Suddenly, he noticed a red bracelet on her wrist, and he instinctively reached out.
His gaze moved from her face to the bracelet. ‘How did that end up on her? Could she be the woman I have been searching for?‘ he wondered.
Excitement bubbled up inside him, and he tried to grab her before she left.
“Don’t go…” he croaked, but his voice was barely above a whisper, and Celeste didn’t hear him. She walked out, closing the door with a soft click.
Calm returned to the ward, but Marcus felt a wave of frustration wash over him. He attempted to sit up, but pain shot through his body, reminding him that he was in no shape to move.
‘So close, he thought. He was this close to finding her.
Celeste had just finished her time with Marcus and made a beeline for Wesley’s research lab to dive into her work.
The lab had everything she needed, so she didn’t have to set anything up. She quickly changed into her white lab coat, locked the door, and got to work on the medicine.
After three days, Celeste had successfully developed a drug for heart disease. She was feeling a bit worn out, so she grabbed some bread and milk nearby to refuel before taking off her lab coat and stepping out of the research room.
The sunlight hit her like a wave after she had been cooped up for so long, and she squinted at the brightness. Shielding her eyes with her hand, she headed straight to Declan’s hospital room.
Before she could enter, Declan’s complaints came from the hospital room.
“Hey, Dad, Mom, I heard from Isolde that you brought home Celeste–that totally uneducated, ugly, and dumb girl? Are you really planning to throw a banquet to announce her as your real daughter?” he asked.
Rafferty and Amara overheard Declan’s nasty comments about Celeste and quickly stepped in. “Seriously, Declan? How can you talk like that? Celeste is your sister. Even if you’re not close, you shouldn’t be insulting her like that.”
“Yeah, but that’s what she is,” Declan fired back.
Once he found out that his biological sister had been located three months ago, Declan wasted no time getting her background checked.
The results were a mixed bag: they said she was ignorant and foolish, disfigured from an accident, uneducated, and always spending her time partying with a bunch of punks.
