Chapter 7 Can You Wait For Me?
Someone had messed with Marcus’s brakes, trying to take him out, and he was still piecing together who the culprit was.
He wasn’t too keen on opening up to Isolde, so when she asked about it, he shrugged and said, “It’s not your business to get involved.”
Isolde halted, her hand hovering over the alcohol bottle, bitterness flooding her. After all those years by his side, she still felt locked out of his heart.
‘Am I not good enough? she wondered. She had done everything she could to prove her worth. ‘Why does he keep clinging to a woman he couldn’t even locate? Would he ever notice me?
Pushing aside her jumble of feelings, Isolde finished changing Marcus’s medicine in haste. Just as she was about to say something, his phone rang. Not wanting to disturb him or make things worse, she smartly decided to step out.
Once she left, Marcus picked up the call. “Hey, Grandpa.”
“Marcus, your fiancée, Celeste Huxley, is found. Mr. and Mrs. Huxley are throwing a welcome back party for her next month. “After you’re feeling better, I’ll set up a time for you two to meet and see if there’s a spark. Sound good?” Kieran Hale asked. Marcus wasn’t exactly jumping at the chance to meet her, but he thought it might be a chance to back out of the engagement. “Sure, I’m okay with that,” he said.
Happy with Marcus’s answer, Kieran responded with a satisfied “Good,” then hung up to chat with Rafferty about Celeste’s upcoming meeting with Marcus.
Celeste finally woke up at eight in the evening, drawn out of sleep by the delicious smell of a meal. When she opened her eyes, she spotted some dishes on her nightstand, along with a note.
[I didn’t wake you up. I made you something to eat. Enjoy it when you wake up. If it’s cold, just bring it down, and I’ll heat it up for you. Love, Mom.]
Celeste, who had never experienced this kind of care before, felt a warm glow inside.
She quickly freshened up and carried her meal to the coffee table. It was a simple home–cooked dinner, but to her, it tasted like the best thing she’d had in ages.
After eating, she took the dishes downstairs to wash them and then headed back upstairs.
She picked up her phone and turned it on. Right away, it was buzzing with text notifications. Looking over her messages, she noticed that most of them were from Logan.
Logan: [Why didn’t you tell me you got kicked out of the Sinclair family?]
Logan: [Celeste, why is your phone going off? Are you okay?]
Logan: [Celeste, call me back right now.]
Logan: [Celeste, I’m really worried about you.]
Logan: [Celeste, I’m leaving the Sinclair family. That place isn’t home to me anymore. Let’s stick together from now on, just the two of us.]
Logan: [Celeste, I’ve made up my mind. I want to go abroad, and when I’m back, we’ll never be apart again, okay?]
As Celeste read the messages, concern washed over her. She wondered if Logan had actually left the Sinclair family because of her.
Celeste called Logan, and his voice came through almost immediately. “Celeste! You finally called me back! How have you been? Are you okay? Is your family treating you alright?”
After taking a moment to gather her thoughts, Celeste responded, “They’ve been good to me, Logan. You don’t need to worry about me. But why did you leave the Sinclair family so suddenly? Was it because of me?”
Logan paused for a moment. She was right–he had left the Sinclairs because of her.
When he found out she’d been kicked out, he tried to get her back into the family, but his parents were having none of it. They threatened to cut ties with him if he didn’t drop Celeste.
He knew their threats were manipulative, but he took them seriously. He decided to break away from them, moved out, and gave up everything to be by Celeste’s side.
But after he became broke, he realized that his being around only added to her burdens.
So, he chose to go abroad with his friends to start his own business. He promised himself that once he found success, he would come back, live with her, protect her, and take care of her.
After thinking it over, Logan said, “It wasn’t just about you; it was also that home felt so cold and unwelcoming that I had to

leave. Do you still see me as your big brother now that I’ve got nothing?”
Celeste had always seen him as her big brother–not because of what he had but because of how he treated her. Even though he was penniless now, he was still her big brother in her heart.
She quickly reassured him, “Hey, don’t stress. As long as you’re still you, it doesn’t matter if you have money or not–you’ll always be my brother. Did you make it abroad?”
“Yeah, I just got here, and I’m about to look for a place to stay.”
Celeste wanted Logan to stay safe and take care of himself. Just as she was about to hang up, Logan said seriously from the other end of the line, “Can you wait for me?”
Celeste wasn’t entirely sure what he meant by that, but wanting to make him happy, she replied, “Of course, I’ll wait for you.”
When Logan heard her words, a wave of happiness and relief washed over him. At that moment, he realized it was totally worth it to break away from the Sinclair family and start fresh for her.
After wrapping up her call with Logan, Celeste jumped onto her social media app and checked out the messages from her
teammates.
[Captain, we won the Championship! Let’s celebrate!]
[Captain vanished after the game. Something must have happened, right?]
[You better take that back! Nothing can happen to Celeste!]
[Ugh, I just went to her school, and I heard she was expelled!]
[@Celeste Captain, what happened? We need a solid explanation here!]
Celeste read through the messages and replied: [I just found out I got expelled.]
It looked like one of Chloe’s sneaky tricks.
Chloe thought that once Celeste got home, she wouldn’t have a shot at the same school again, so she convinced the principal to kick her out, especially since she was coming in last on every test.
But honestly, Celeste was just playing the part of the underachiever to stay under the radar. Her grades weren’t that bad.
Being at the top of the class and constantly in the spotlight would drive her nuts, and being at the bottom gave her the freedom to do her thing.
The teachers were always frustrated, acting like Celeste was invisible in class. They wouldn’t care even if she skipped class.
How awesome was that?
