For the next three days, the Thompson family was busy making arrangements for Jack’s funeral.
Meanwhile, I reported the case to the police, but with so many people on their side and the storm of online outrage against me, there was little they could do to help.
Before I could come up with a plan, Mrs. Thompson had already done a media interview.
In the interview, she blasted me for being unfilial and disloyal, throwing accusations at me with every breath.
Once the interview aired, the public fury reached a boiling point.
Taking Olivia’s advice, Mrs. Thompson hired a lawyer to sue me, demanding I repay every penny of Jack’s assets from his lifetime. She also wanted to charge me with intentional harm and have me thrown in jail.
Faced with her barrage of accusations, I stayed silent.
I watched as the online hate grew louder, knowing I couldn’t change people’s minds.
On the day of the trial, reporters flooded the courthouse, livestreaming the event as the entire internet waited for me to be forced to hand over the money and beg Mrs. Thompson for forgiveness.
Mrs. Thompson sobbed dramatically in court, her words dripping with certainty that she would win.
Olivia stood by her side, pretending to be a concerned family member.
The two seemed to get along so well, like nothing had ever happened between us.
And Mrs. Thompson still didn’t seem to have a clue, she honestly believed Olivia’s child was the Thompson family’s heir.
When Mrs. Thompson presented her evidence, expecting me to cave and admit guilt, I took out my phone and played a recording from the hospital that day.
“Didn’t you say my son was fine? How could he have cancer? How did you examine him? I don’t care about the money anymore, just save my son’s life!”
“Mom, don’t worry. The baby in my belly is Jack’s child, how could I hurt him? I only had him fake an illness so we could get the money from Amy. Don’t you want that too? Are you really willing to let that bitch Amy keep the money?”
“How was I supposed to know Jack was really sick? I’m devastated too. I don’t want my child to grow up without a father! Who could have known Amy wouldn’t pay? Since things are this bad, there’s no saving Jack. You wouldn’t want to waste $200,000 at the hospital, right?”
“Amy’s not paying, but that actually works out. At least the money’s still in her hands, it won’t just disappear. Once Jack dies, we’ll sue her for it. We’ll get that money from that bitch!”
The moment the recording finished, the courtroom fell dead silent.
Everyone’s eyes were wide with disbelief as the truth sank in.
The audio quickly spread online through the livestream.
Netizens erupted with anger, flooding the comments demanding the Thompson family apologize publicly and leave the courtroom.
Mrs. Thompson’s face drained of color as she realized what I had just exposed.
She tried to explain herself, but the judge cut her off, no longer tolerating her scene.
The lawsuit ended without resolution.
As I walked out of the courtroom, I saw Olivia on the phone with her back turned. I took the opportunity to slip a document into her hand.
It was a report from a private investigator, revealing the truth about the child in her belly, it wasn’t Jack’s.
I couldn’t help but smirk as I saw Mrs. Thompson’s confused and horrified expression.
I left without looking back, but I couldn’t resist watching the aftermath.
The livestream was still going, and outside the courthouse, Mrs. Thompson and Olivia were in a heated argument.
Mrs. Thompson was demanding an amniocentesis to prove the child’s paternity. Olivia, desperate, tried to make excuses, but Mrs. Thompson wasn’t buying it.
In a fit of rage, Mrs. Thompson shoved Olivia down the courthouse steps.
Olivia tumbled, falling two meters, and immediately started bleeding heavily.
By the time the police arrived, the baby was gone, completely beyond saving.
Olivia not only lost the money, but she also lost her child.
Before she could even get into the operating room, she was screaming for an arrest, accusing Mrs. Thompson of intentional assault.
The hospital conducted an investigation and found that Olivia had falsified medical records. They issued a statement permanently revoking her medical license.
Olivia was blacklisted from the medical industry.
But that wasn’t the end of it.
With Mrs. Thompson’s personality, I knew she’d make sure Olivia wouldn’t have a life here anymore.
I couldn’t be bothered with their drama any longer.
After getting the transfer from my mom, I packed up and left the city behind.
On the road, my phone kept buzzing with messages.
Once my account was reinstated, people flooded my profile with private apologies.
I didn’t bother reading them. I just applied to delete my account for good.
Letting go of the past was the only way to move forward and make room for a better future.
